Tasty. I see you have no Toe-in or so it appears. I bet those sound fabulous. I picked up a pair of R300's this week. While not in the same class have some similarities in form factor and design. I'm thrilled with the sound so far.
My small barracks room Vandenberg AFB 1973. AR4x speakers I bought as a teen in 1968 (along with the rest shown). Wish I still had them, for sentimental reasons. Back then I thought the "sound stage" with the speakers against the wall was great.
Altec Lansing Model 4. Had them about 15 years now. They look good and sound fantastic! Great tight bass and very wide dispersion horn tweeter that is smooth and accurate. They mate well with my old Silvertone tube amp and fit nicely in my den. Everyone who has heard this setup has been highly impressed. This includes 4 forum members. With my other systems they have always given friendly advice on where I could improve things. With this system they are advice-less!
Congrats! I have heard great things about the R300s and R3s. I also own the LS50 and am a huge fan. The Uni-Q drivers generally require very little toe-in. If your speakers are new, IME these KEFsalso take about 6 months to break in, for the midrange to fully open up. Enjoy!
I’ve really enjoyed my current speakers, the Triangle Antal EZ. Probably the best mids and highs I’ve had in my apartment. These replaced my B&W 804 which I could never get to image properly. I do want to step up too the Triangle Delta.
I miss my Aerial Acoustic 10Ts. Driven my Levinson 331 amp and 39 CD player. Sounded heavenly. Had kids and moved to house where they didn't make sense . . .
Fully agree on the break-in. Received my Ref 1s early March and I’m still hearing positive changes. Also, I have mine with zero toe-in and have no issues with imaging. The fantastic off-axis performance is one of the key reasons for me to go KEF.
"Fonus" Faber? Are those like Sonus Faber knock offs? Similar to "phonet" to describe the old "Vuarnet" sunglass knock offs?
LOL I was going to say to your last reply if it was Crown Royal related........ Now it makes perfect sense, and 100% excusable!
I still have my Def Tech BP10's that must be at least 25 years old. Pioneer Pl-50L table and a Sansui Au-9900 make for a great combo. I tried a pair of Paradigm Studio 60's, but I didn't find any improvement and returned them.
I have BP8's, had them for years and they currently are in my woodshop. To this day, I am always impressed with the sound they put forth, I think they are one of the most underrated speakers going. They always sound good....... I also have the Pioneer PL-70Lii turntable, similar to your PL-50L --- they're fine tables.
I wonder what old speakers are hangin around. I have a Klipsch powered sub 12” I think, sitting around taking up space in another room. My wife growls at the space it takes. Someone gave the thing to me but I’ve never even used it. There must be many forgotten speakers wasting away in attics and basements. Poor old things!
a/d/s/ L710 in the late '70s, perfect for dorm room listening. VMPS Ribbon Monitor 1. Dynamic, natural sounding, deep and tight bass, and with proper amplification able to play to insane levels with low distortion. Unfortunately the company was essentially one man (Brian Cheney), and when he died all support dried up. JohnK
Yeah, I have many more speakers I don't use these days than I use..... and that's saying something with three different setups! Just sold a pair of Klipsch RP-280FA's I was using in my HT set up that my wife was grumbling about taking up space too.... then sold a RP-450C and Def Tech center channel a few weeks ago. Still have many more to go, in clearing out mode.
