Years ago, I remember one of those Rolling Stone special editions of The Greatest Rock Albums. In the preface, it was stated that there were no albums in it by artists like Elton John, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, etc. because the guys at Rolling Stone considered them "anti-rock." I always thought that was a really snobby perspective.

I got this 1975 album for my birthday in 1978 and the whole album still flashes me back to that golden year in my life, especially "Win" and "Right."

The Have a Nice Day box set is loaded with feel-good '70s songs, but what R. Dean Taylor's "Indiana Wants Me" (a disturbing song about a murderer running from the police) is doing on it is anybody's guess.

    I've a bunch as well, but here's a couple:
Maria Muldaur's 'Midnight at the Oasis'
"Moonlight Feels Right' and 'Dancin' in the Moonlight'...reminds me of mushroom pizza and summer nights.

LOVE the entire "World is a Ghetto" LP, however - very laid-back sound, although with some serious lyrics. :righton:

You may hear "disturbing" and "murder"; others may remember it for its' immense song hook, and it being a tender story about a guy saying goodbye to his girl from circumstances he couldn't control. The '70s had a lot of those "from the downtrodden's point-of-view" songs, humanizing tragedy from the protagonists' perspective. That maybe the most emotional hit on the radio of the day, involving a police standoff and reign of bullets.

From 1978, just a bunch of old standards he liked a lot, but he didn't write a single one.

Jackson Browne's Asylum debut which is generally referred to as "Saturate Before Using"..(not actual title) has that warm 70's SoCal sound.
