The other version is in Portuguese, not Spanish...

Amazing selections from Mr. Motta. I've been enjoying those mixes since they were released!
You know what? I own both, and the Portuguese version gets more play from me. The English lyrics are just, well, pedestrian, and don't flow as well, IMO. He's an amazing talent. He's got a new album coming soon.

I like yacht rock, especially as practiced by land-locked guys in Arizona.

Hey, a Pages fan! Respect, brother.

You don't get much smoother than George Benson, fellas. "Give Me the Night" is his most westcoast/AOR oriented album, and my favorite one too.

That's a superb album! The title track is as good as it gets!

Dwayne Ford's "Needless Freaking" from 1981 (produced by David Foster, with a bevy of L.A. heavyweight session musicians) is one of my favorite "West Coast/AOR" albums. It's a pretty obscure recording, even by West Coast/AOR standards. I was lucky enough to find a vinyl copy a few years back at Banana's record warehouse in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Other West Coast albums I enjoy include David Roberts' "All Dressed Up" (1982, with the members of Toto providing sturdy backing) and Bill LaBounty's "Bill LaBounty" from 1982, which also features A-list session players, a strong set of songs and background vocals from the likes of James Taylor.

Nice! Had to dig up my school's French though. In this recent interview he says that his new album is going to be more jazzy, in the Mark Murphy vein.

Never heard of them either. I belong to an AOR Westcoast group on Facebook where they post lots of stuff like that to discover. It's called "AOR Westcoast/Yacht Rock/Soul/Funk until mid '80s". Horrible name, great stuff. Also, "Like" the "AOR Disco" page for similar posts.

Thanks for telling me about them. Is one of the best albums i've heard this year, and i'm listening right now! I hope they continue with this project.

And can you give me a link to the community AOR Westcoast/Yacht Rock/Soul/Funk until mid '80s? I didn't find it. I believe Ed Motta created it, right? I must have a Facebook account if i just want to read what is posted? Cause i don't have one.

The AOR Disco you talked about is this one?

Another good album in this vein would be Ned Doheny: Hard Candy. Hard to find but it's all worth it.

After reading this thread I went ahead and ordered the Airplay album. I am a Toto fan and like all of the Foster produced Tubes and Chicago albums so I hope I like Airplay too! I will post my thoughts when I get it and listen.

Yes, that's the AOR Disco page, and here's the link to the group I mentioned, which I believe is a Closed Group which means you do have to have a FB account to request to Join it.

Ed has a couple of videos on his page, basically cruising in a car listening to tracks from the album.

Start from the third one in, and keep clicking.
