A Hard Day's Night. Powerful and energetic, just what you want to open an LP.

Best song here is probably Like a Rolling Stone but I could see that working better somewhere in the middle of an LP instead.

Always good to have a bit of comedy thrown in.

Not much interest in this final match, that's funny..

Gimme Shelter has recently halved the ten-vote deficit to five.

The song which Merry Clayton sings! Phenomenal. I remember listening to that song for the first time and getting goosebumps when I heard her voice.

It's between "Gimme Shelter" and "Baba O'Riley" and I can't decide, for the life of me. I didn't even know the other two were opening tracks, which shows you how much attention I've paid to the albums they're from.

Baba O'Riley is a great song, but it is such relief in it that I think of it as a perfect closer rather than an opener. Gimme Shelter is good, but I cannot see why it would work particularly well as an opener. The two remaining songs are definitely among the greatest openers ever. I voted for AHDN since it build up a lot more expectations than are fulfilled in its short time span.

You're right. And it was the quarter final A that was mighty:

Sorry to have missed the rest of this, but a simple answer to a simple question: Baba O'Reilly. Simply an epic song with great lyrics, intro, main theme and outro: the song demands your attention.

For mostly the same reasoning, I would put Bob second.

    Bookies don't often lose money!

I have to go with Baba O'Riley here.

Let It Bleed and Who's Next are my favorite albums by the Stones and the Who, though I slightly prefer Who's Next. However, I think "Gimme Shelter" is a better opener than "Baba O'Riley", though I love both songs. Thus, I voted for the Stones' song.

    Tool is smarter than that.

22 years old and more relevant than ever:

    Something has to change
    Undeniable dilemma
    Boredom's not a burden
    Anyone should bear
    Constant over stimulation numbs me
But I would not want you any other way

    It's not enough
    I need more
    Nothing seems to satisfy
    I said
    I don't want it
    I just need it
To breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive

    Finger deep within the borderline
Show me that you love me and that we belong together
Relax, turn around and take my hand

    I can help you change
    Tired moments into pleasure
Say the word and we'll be
    Well upon our way
    Blend and balance
Pain and comfort deep within you
Till you will not want me any other way

    It's not enough
    I need more
    Nothing seems to satisfy
    I said
    I don't want it
    I just need it
To breathe, To feel, to know I'm alive

    Knuckle deep inside the borderline
This may hurt a little but it's something you'll get used to
    Relax. Slip away

    Something kinda sad about
The way that things have come to be
    Desensitized to everything
    What became of subtlety?

How can this mean anything to me
If I really don't feel anything at all?

    I'll keep digging
    Till I feel something

    Elbow deep inside the borderline
Show me that you love me and that we belong together
    Shoulder deep within the borderline
Relax. Turn around and take my hand

It’s about lack of real communication and it predated the internet era right before it really took off.
People who’s lives revolve around Facebook or Twitter should take note.

That's cool then, thanks for the heads up. And there are plenty whose predelictions are Facebook and Twitter for sure.

Ok, sorry if I came across as sarcastic, but a better explanation might be that the song is about people always looking for more while missing out on what really matters.

Not at all. And whichever it is, is fine. Maybe Tool have a decent closing song that would fit into the all-new closing songs contest. I confess I know little about them apart from some connection with A Perfect Circle - and I only know that through a song I like called 3 Libras.

I’m not that big on APC to be honest.
Sounds a bit like a watered down Tool, although they’re top class musicians (Troy Van Leeuwen, f.i.).
Some gossip going on about a new album, maybe even a double, but that ship will probably sail on into next year again. I kinda gave up on getting new material and rather focus on Danny Carey’s pet project Volto! which you definitely should check out!
