No it wasn’t on the old release
When I heard it on the radio I wondered which Floyd album it was from
What’s more when they put it on The Final Cut they smuggled it into the middle of the song list which I (also) thought was odd
Though they did a similar thing with “Silver Springs” on later editions of Rumours

I knew it from The Wall film. It doesn't seem to really fit either album, but even so, splitting up the flow between One of the Few and The Hero's Return is borderline criminal - the whole point of that transition was to provide much needed resolution to the unsettling nature of OotF.

The Final Cut is interesting as a sustained piece of music. The songs are a bit like chapters in a novel. Inserting a new song is like pasting in a short story in between chapters

Yes I like the presence of bonus tracks - I’d prefer them to be kept separate to the album but understand how to get around this.....

    Favourites over the years:

The Bowie Ryko tracks (except they messed up with Holy Holy and The Supermen)

Elton John - Come Down in Time (demo) on Tumbleweed Deluxe Editiob

Genesis Plays Jackson (Extras Disc in the Green Box)

Talking Heads - Bill (on Naked)

Bill Nelson - White Sound (added to The Love That Whirls)

The Chris Lowe song about Aids on Very by the Pet Shop Boys is lovely and poignant and changes the whole experience of listening to the album. Without it, the recent vinyl reissue, with its bright yellow cover, was just joyous - very good and a bona fide classic, but without that significant little extra to link it to the real world.

Cajun Born should've been included from the beginning. It's amazing & fit perfectly on the album. Enough said.

Oh I was pretty happy with The Doors 40th anniversary reissues.
At the time a no brainer to buy all of the original albums, with some additional music!
Like to buy cds, not download.

Two bonus tracks that became hits, at least in some places:

"Leave Me Alone" by Michael Jackson (from Bad), a hit single in many countries but not an official single in the USA
"Hole Hearted" by Extreme (from Pornograffiti), the first bonus track to be a hit in the USA

Neither of these was on the vinyl edition of its album.

It's tough to force this in, probably should've been first since it was such an early track (both recording and storyline). Post war dream would've picked the story right up from there. Poor spot for a bonus. And then they omit inserting the Hero's Return II as a bonus track...

I just watched an interview from 2005 or so where Lou says he likes some of the demo bonus tracks on the Coney Island Baby remaster better than what went on the album. Surprised me because earlier he had a really hands off approach to his old recordings.

I also like the outtake "Good Taste" on the Sally Can't Dance remaster.

Those reissues were very well done and Lou was involved in them.

Too Much of Anything was on the original Odds & Sods so isn't a bonus track strictly speaking. The bonus track was just a different mix.

The Cantina version of Heroes & Villains as a bonus track of the SS/WH two-fer in 1990 was the first release of an integral
Smile artifact since Surf's Up nearly 20 years earlier.

Robyn Hitchcock inserted bonus tracks into the middle of both of his acoustic solo albums, in EYE and I OFTEN DREAM OF TRAINS, and they both work. And as mentioned above, the bonus tracks on ELEMENT OF LIGHT are as good as anything on the album.

But for me, I think the winner for value and common sense goes to the cd release of Thunderclap Newman's HOLLYWOOD DREAM. The bonus tracks are the three singles, in order, A-side/B-side x3, with the correct edits and mixes, following the album. You get the entire recorded output in one place at one time. a wonderful listening experience.

Some of my favorite bonus tracks off Easy Pieces from Lloyd Cole & The Commotions:
Perfect Blue and Her Last Fling. From INXS: KICK Special Edition: Move On and Different World.

I really appreciate that bonus tracks are tacked onto Japanese releases to make their higher costs more worthwhile.

tull has a career worth of bonus tracks. 10 albums worth of independent of album material from 68-84 of mainly good-very good songs with finished production . That’s unheard of lol. My fave dozen would be in order of year are:

    Love story
    Living in the past
    Witches promise
    Teacher
    Up the pool
    Audition
    Glory row
    Good godmother
    Summerday sands
    Strip cartoon
    Living in these hard times
    A stitch in time

    another dozen could be:

    Sweet dream
    Life is a long song
    Wondering again
    Left right
    March the mad scientist
    Saturation
    Commercial traveler
    Old aces die hard
Living in these hard times 2
    Kelpie
    Orion long version
    Urban apocalypse

If previously unreleased songs on a best-of count, then I vote for "Here At The Western World" on Steely Dan/Greatest Hits.
