Yes, she managed to provide a whole new dimension to the soundscape. The mysterious European beauty colliding with the rough and ready New York Lou Reed. Femme Fatale is wonderful and largely in part because of her vocal :)

It was only this Century that it dawned on me that "All Tomorrows Parties" is
a Eurotrash version of The Byrds arrangement 0f "The Bells Of Rhymney"...
and that Peter Townsend ripped off Cale's intro for The Who's "Join Together".

And there's that great Peter Gabriel song: " Oh Nico, Nico, because Nico" :)

So THAT’s what he’s been saying the whole time in that song...guess they made a spelling error on the record...

While we're on the subject of Nico, her Chelsea Girl album belongs right up there with the first Velvets album. Seeing as everyone except Maureen is on it I don't see why not. Besides, it's a gorgeous album (despite her hatred of the flutes), perfect listening on a fall day. Mono is the way to go on this one.

Loaded, followed by VU if it counts. Nine times out of ten I prefer a band's earliest work, but the Velvets are one of those exceptions that make the rule.

Is the best digital source for the non-Matrix tracks on the "Live 1969" album still the 1988 CD?

It would be cool if Live 1969 was remixed/remastered now that the complete matrix tapes have been found.

Think the band struggled with her out of the picture in later albums.

Management were really behind Squeeze even using the artist Stanislaw Zagorski who designed Loaded album cover.

Nico’ Debut came out a few months after VU&Nico. Nico seemed to be the face of 1967. Paul McCartney was impressed with her and invited her round to his Cavendish house to hear Sgt Pepper, though smitten with A Day In A Life ..she was less impressed by the woke up fell out of bed bit, she wasn’t invited back to the Beatles abode again. :)

Nico because it was so influential and has the most iconic songs of any VU release.
