You know, this is likely within my top 10 Prince tracks but I think it was a utterly bonkers choice for a single. Even without the little sinister monologue at the end it still is quite unusual on the whole. The live version from the Sign O’ the Times comcert is beautiful too.
Yes, probably, yet it remains such a powerful and out-there song that proves once again how original Prince was as an artist
Just snagged a copy of "Crystal Ball" on eBay. I've had tons of copies over the years but they always seem to sprout legs and walk away. Now, if I could just find a reasonably priced copy of "One Nite Alone... Live".
You've got to think that stuff live the NPGMC albums and the ONA box set will get reissued in the next couple of years. Even amongst relatively serious Prince fans there are all sorts of 'releases' that were missed out on the first time around and are still in demand. I'd like to see a re-issue of 'Goldn***a', it's a really good album that deserves to be heard by more casual Prince fans. Even Tony M is tolerable when the music is so funky. Exodus, likewise, is due a reappraisal. There are all sorts of under-heard gems in the officially released Prince catalogue before we ever start on vault material. It's a bit of a tragedy that we had to wait until he was no longer with us to see re-issues of his rarer material. I think over the next few years we'll see a lot of non-WB Prince material getting re-issued and I'm looking forward to seeing what we get.
Prince chit chatting. Never really in the mood for Prince gab but someone may find this interview edifying:
I'd like to think that some of the harder to find stuff will get reissued, but I'm not holding my breath.
making my own artist discography on CD is a personal hobby of mine. here's one I've made of Prince's late period albums (2007~2015). that's span of 6 albums (one of'em being double), not counting 3rdeyegirl album since only song i like from that is a cover (AnotherLove). Art Official Cage This Could B Us (HitnRun Phase One version) FallInLove2Nite 4Ever Colonized Mind U're Gonna C Me (MPLSound version) (There'll Never B) Another Like me Future Baby Mama 1000 X's & O's RockNRoll Love Affair Xtraloveable Revelation i'm more of a pop/rock Prince fan rather than r&b Prince so... chosen tracks leans more to that direction. even with all those albums to pull from, it wasn't easy to come up with dozen high-quality tracks...definitely not his crowning period. i would love to see some of your track listing from the same period, using the same 12-song parameter...in case i'm missing something crucial
I just created a best of dividing Prince’s career in 3 eras. The only parameter - 17 tracks to represent each era (so a lot was left off, especially during the first era). Here is the late period track list from 2004-2016. One note - Supercute is on here as it was released on an album in 2004 even though it was a download in 2001. 1. Guitar 2. Musicology 3. Future Soul Song 4. Supercute 5. Fallinlove2nite 6. Clouds 7. Love 8. Breakdown 9. Baltimore 10. Black Sweat 11. 1,000 Xs & Os 12. Dance 4 Me 13. Xtralovable 14. Black Muse 15. Rock’n’Roll Loveaffair 16. FunkNRoll (Art Official Age Version) 17. Way Back Home (Remix) U’re Gonna C Me and There’ll Never B Another Me were definitely a contenders. Future Baby Mama was not.
it was a toss up between 2 'Future' songs but think i went with 'Future Baby Mama' to represent Planet Earth album.. since i have none from it on my list (not a fan of 'Guitar').
Do you like the Guitar Demo version released before the album? Very different from the album version.
It was actually a physical single too: Single: Supercute - Prince Vault I can't have that song without "Underneath The Cream" following it, they go together. Prince seems to have thought so too as he sequenced them together on all configurations they appeared (like also the unreleased High album).
Just enjoyed a couple of glasses of Borgogne watching a bunch of HD Prince videos that I grabbed from YouTube>USB>TV Controversy to U Got The Look.
