Thats what I’m counting on, especially if the recent release of the original version of Nothing Compares 2U is the precedent- first a vinyl only single then a year later on a comp. Until then I’ll just stream this.
So I listened to this new demo on YouTube. Well, if I am paying over £25 for one song, I am glad that it is something special. Prince's acoustic playing here is outstanding. I hope that more acoustic demos like this come out. And on that note, I hope that 'The Truth' album gets a proper, standalone release soon. It's the perfect answer to all those who still think that Prince was nothing but a silly, frilly, get-a-load-of-my-hairy-willy pop puppet.
Prince 20TEN Tour show in Berlin July, 5 2010: Don't generally post amateur vids of concers but this one keeps the date intriguing.
I remember the record. Still love Side A but Side B, aside from Doves, never had the same compelling flow for me. The title track is maudlin stuff (his guitar playing makes it listenable, imo). The tune disappeared altogether from his live shows until the Beyonce duet.
^ Are we talking about the same title track? Prince played the song Purple Rain all the time. It was played on every tour and almost every tour show from 1984 onwards. Even on the 1995 ultimate live experience it was part of the Purple Medley. On the 2002 US-leg ONA tour it was part of the piano medley. The only absence was on non-tour shows (aftershows, 1994 shows, etc.).
Wrong. It was not played on every tour and unless you travelled with him on every one how would U no that?
Since you're the threadstarter, now I understand the title of this thread you felt like some PRINCE since you hadn't heard his music for a really looooong time
That's still not every tour. Nor does it refute my point that it vanished from the show as the years went on.
A lot of his hits disappeared from being consistently performed when he went to the symbol. And he also performed like a jam band with setlists changes up frequently. I think your bias is causing you to really exaggerate how much it “vanished” from his shows
Always liked the single, I'm Yours, from Prince's "debut" album, For You. I don't think the bridge really works - kills the momentum of the song. It could be a dynamic contrast but it just seems like work when he picks it back up at the refrain. Then again, it's quintessential Prince, soft and incredibly intense. The drumming and guitar work (in tandem w/screaming vocals - all Prince, btw) are highlights.
In Antwerp, circa 2010: the opener - Controversy. Saw him do this in Philly back in '84. Different visually; of course, funky, but he didn't have the clout at that point to mix in Chic's Le Freak. Nice touch.
That was one of the best opening songs I ever saw, really worked fantastically. We had a two-page picture of that concert hanging in our kitchen for the rest of the year, great memories.
MY NAME IS PRINCE 25 Inspired Years/1991 To 2006 Photography by Randee St. Nicholas Just picked this up. New release. Bit of a disappointment. Could have been a quarter of its massive size. Photos simply blown up. Something to flip through if you're bored. Too bad because it's full of nice shots.
Interesting discovery today: Slave Trade: How Prince Re-Made The Music Business Free on Tubi TV app. Looks intriguing.
It is a very interesting doc though it is a little long. Shines a light on Prince in the 90s and beyond and how he fought for a future in the music business that few could see at the time. The film takes a lot of Prince’s ‘strange’ business decisions and dissects them showing of prescient they were. It is kind of mind blowing that the symbol that was such a joke has become one of the most well known brands. I would recommend checking it out.
Prince: The Beautiful Ones Dan Piepenbring, Editor Ok, now - every serious Prince fan should own this one. Arranged like a memoir, including handwritten diary entries, photos and recollections about music and life this stand hardcover sized treasury is THE Prince gift of the season, imo. Very nicely done. Recommended.
