Female - female RCA coupler..... bad idea?

I need a two meter RCA interconnect to hook up a sub. I have two one meter Analysis Plus cables, each one too short alone but together they'd be perfect.

What about this? Crazy idea or great idea?

Won't hurt anything, other than being possibly being pulled apart, but other than that....sure why not.

You can always slip a tube of heat shrink over the joint to protect and keep from pulling apart

I've used rca female connectors for a second sub on the opposite side of the room and yes they do work. Fine for a quick fix or testing but I wouldn't use them as a permanent solution to longer cables.

 

I’ve had to use them in a recording application and found them to degrade the sound of the recording.

perhaps it was a poor example of that connector or there were other variables in play but I would only use them on a temporary basis. I’d find the cable you need that doesn’t need the additional connection point.

but…they are very inexpensive, not much risk in trying and deciding for yourself.

 

I've used similar ones over the years with no problems at all.

 

Could or not induce hum. Try them though. If they hum, get a run of cable as needed.

 

subs do not need audiophile cables. i would purchase some long cables at a reasonable cost instead of a cable union.
these are outstanding shielded cables that are highly regarded in the mobile audio industry used for subwoofers and connecting to remote amplifiers. superb for home sub use.
