    OK!

Here's a "double your pleasure" one: "I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know" by The Davis Sisters. This is one of the most haunting country recordings I know. It was a huge country hit in 1953. Chet Atkins is playing the beautiful but spare guitar part in the solo. This "sliding" style of Appalachian-based singing was said to be one of the inspirations for the development of the pedal steel guitar, which mimicked that effect.

The Davis Sisters, who weren't actually sisters, comprised Betty Jack Davis and Mary Frances Penick. Mary Frances adopted the name Skeeter Davis for the purposes of the act. Just as this song was rising on the charts (it eventually became a #1 country hit and also charted in the Top 20 on the pop charts), Betty Jack was killed in an automobile accident in which Skeeter sustained serious head injuries.

Upon her recovery, Betty Jack's mother convinced Skeeter to continue the act with Betty Jack's younger sister Georgia. They carried on for a few more years with less commercial success, and Skeeter ultimately embarked upon a long and successful solo career in 1957.

Here's the second one I owe you!

I believe that in the course of this long and entertaining thread, there have been groups as well as solo female artists put forth.

Here is "Under the Tree of Love and Laughter" by The Cake. Dr. John and Harold Battiste were among the session players on their two Decca albums, and I'm sure they brought some of that Gris-Gris flavor to this wonderful a cappella performance.

This song was composed by members of the group.

I came across this a while ago. And, well, it's a controversial song. Beautiful, beautiful voice brings it here. Like me, I bet you won't be able to forget this version of this song.
