The cure "Pictures of you". If Im not mistaken they use a bass VI. And they use quite a lot on other songs, dont know exactly in wich.
Concerning more modern bands (lets say after the beatles) the cure is the one wich immediatly i associate with bass VI.

Strange Brew, SWBLR, Sunshine of Your Love, and Tales of Brave Ulysses for sure. It's possible that Outside Woman Blues was Bass VI, as well.

I guess I'll have to dig out the MFSL Gold disc and spin that bad boy again with an ear to what songs are the Bass VI, what songs are the EB-1, and what songs are Danny Longhorn.

Impressive ears! Care to take a stab at Fresh Cream too? I've read that it was largely the Fender VI but not exclusively - not sure what made up the slack, his brief flirtation with the Longhorn?

I'm guessing WoF is all EB-3. One hell of a bassist, love playing his stuff (I also favour a shorty with flatwounds, MIJ Mustang at present).

I want one say most of Fresh Cream was Bass VI, I'll have to dig that one out, as well (as if I need a reason to have a 'Cream Day' lol)

And I'm a big believer in flatwound strings on all my basses - my Bass VIs get LaBella Deep Talkin' Flats, my P-basses get D'Addario Chrome Flats, and my EB-1 gets GHS Precision Flats or Pyramid Flats...I'd love to have a MIJ Mustang!

Every picture I've ever seen of the Disraeli Gears sessions has Jack Bruce playing a Danelectro Longhorn bass.

Me too, but I assume that would be because they recorded and mixed the whole thing in like 4 days, total...so that would mean that there wasn't much time for pictures and such, I assume. Maybe Ahmet had someone come in and snap a few pics, and that was while Bruce had the Danny out...but from what I can ascertain, JB used the Danny, the Bass VI, and the EB-0 on Disraeli Gears. That's just what my ears tell me.

I'd be interested in seeing a list of which songs you think use which basses.

I came across this clip quite a few years ago, and only then did I realize that that solo was played on a 6 string bass. Very cool that he played live.
And then only just a couple years ago did I learn that the recording was actually made on a Danelectro, as opposed to a Fender.

"Strange Brew", "SWBLR", "Sunshine of Your Love", and "Tales of Brave Ulysses" all sound like the Bass VI to me - it's got that punchy attack.

I'd have to listen to the album again to decide which of the other tracks have the Longhorn or the EB-0, and probably won't be able to dig the disc out until the weekend.

I love my Dano VI. Barre chords sound amazing.

That's right, but they don't use it for the bass lines, they (I mean Robert) use it sort of as a lead guitar, instead of a bass.
    Here it is in action:

Top pic. I had one of them for a few months in 1973( 32 frets) John McLaughlin phase. :)

    Yeah right.
Do you mean in their sound or how they look?
    Or both?

    Cosmetics.

Sound wise they pack a punch, but look so cheap. My aesthetically judgment. But saying that the guitar design wouldn’t suit humbuckers.

I got rid of mine because I lost my job. Couldn’t afford the monthly payment.

    Ahhhhh!
    Cool.
We all have our tastes, I'm not a fan of the double humbucker look.
So there ya go! Late 60's/70's Rock players onward would knock me out for saying that.
    Sound wise I dig.
