If only the title had been the worst thing about that.

I worked on the 1988 Andrew McCarthy film Fresh Horses (which was a phrase from Shakespeare), and it went absolutely nowhere. And then there was the 1983 movie Star Chamber with Michael Douglas, which referred to an obscure legal term about a secret council of judges that passed death sentences onto evil people, and that sank without a trace. Both had very, very bad titles.

State and Main. Fantastic film by David Mamet. I think it had a somewhat limited release, but it could have used a better title. My wife and I were trying to remember it a few days ago, and for the life of us couldn't, it's such a bland title.

That was gonna be my suggestion. How do they NOT name the franchise movie after the only reason anyone would see it, namely the one bright spot in its otherwise tedious predecessor?

Since Margot Robbie was the prime mover of the movie getting made, I assume she chose or approved the title. Was it some bout of modesty? Pretentiousness? Failed humor?

Help! could have been better-titled. I can see several well-meaning citizens seeing the sign, running into the theater, and seeing that the film was playing normally without problems...then just walking back out.

At first it was going to be called Eight Arms To Hold You.

Innerspace (1987), starring Meg Ryan, Dennis Quaid, and Martin Short. The title sounds more sci-fi than comedy. Was kind of popular in the day but felt it could have been a bigger hit.

I think Friedkin's "Sorcerer" had quite a misleading title.

Yeah, Friedkin has acknowledged that. I wish that Steve McQueen (Friedkin's first choice for the star) could have made the film, because I think he would have been better than Roy Scheider. But there were a lot of mistakes made in the approach, the marketing, and other issues beyond the title.

But, that would have just made many sensitive individuals ticklish...as well as making the obvious whimsy of my post go right over Michael's head. Oh, wait - it did, as usual...

It wasn't a bad little film though.

Sometimes a movie is made with one title and it gets changed somewhere along the way.

Martha Plimpton was in a 1994 Movie: The Beans of Egypt, Maine.

Which, I believe was the name of the book that the movie was based on.

It was later changed to Forbidden Choices.

Titles, movies, songs, books. Sort of a Clothes-make-the-man issue. I just find so many titles alone fail to interest me.
