prayers Terry will be well soon and his recovery smoother than the 17 year journey making the film!

Even if you’re not a Terry Gilliam fan, you gotta admire the man’s determination

Glad to know that Mr. Gilliam is now feeling better and is... well, as the shirt says, doing OK.

Brutal pan by Variety from the Cannes premiere:
Cannes Film Review: ‘The Man Who Killed Don Quixote’

I'm disappointed because Gilliam's Brazil and Fisher King are a couple of my favorite films, and I'm always hoping for another great one. Now I wonder if Brazil would've been an incoherent mess too if it wasn't for Tom Stoppard working on it.

    Another review -
"It may not be Gilliam’s masterpiece, but it is a movie with sprightliness, innocence and charm and it is a morale boost to anyone who cares about creativity that Gilliam has got the film made at all. His own intelligence and joy in his work shine out of every frame, and his individuality is a delight when so much of mainstream cinema seems to have been created by algorithm. What a dull place the world would be without Terry Gilliam."

Gilliam's made the same mistakes before, getting funding from arms dealers to make Brazil.

Love Gilliam (I thought dr. Paranassus was underrated) but I’d still rather see Welles’ version! With Driver and Pryce, I will certainly see this. Gilliam can be hit or miss I was excited about Zero Theorem, but that was a mess. I can see what the Variety reviewer means about Gilliam’s visual effluvium being grand but his basic directorial skills in crafting a coherent movie lacking.

I'm completely with you on those two movies. I though he did a brilliant job of finishing Paranassus and Zero Theorem was a big yuck. Also, I thought Brothers Grimm was underrated. Twelve Monkeys one of my favs.

Apparently no wide release in the US for this.

Before seeing Dumbo today at my local Cinemark, they showed a brief advertisement for a one-night only Fathom event showing of it, some time in April, I think.

All that time spent on making this, including delays and reshoots, etc. and they can only have a one-night showing?

That's unfortunate - I hope it will be rethought for wider release by May!

It sucks. But it will make a showing special if you go.

My wife saw it last night. She said she'll have to see it a second time to fairly judge it. She said the theater was crowded, mostly with huge Star Wars fans in town for a five day Star Wars convention and they were there to see Adam Driver, who played Kylo Ren.

I saw it last night with my brother who's a big Gilliam fan and I agree with your wife. It IS kind of a mess at first glance but there are some beautiful sets and shots (which should be expected) and a twisty-sort-of ending that although begs disbelief still makes some weird sense. After all, it's a Terry Gilliam film so don't expect your typical Hollywood pat ending.
