One could arguably say the same thing happened to ELP, the same thing happened to Genesis...

Yeah one could say this was the last solid Yes album. Ironically coincides with the end of the 1970's.

I love Relayer, but I just don’t think it came together as effortlessly/effectively as Close to the Edge. Plus, I keep thinking how much better that record would be if Bruford was drumming on it....

At least on here, it seems a lot of people love 90125.

That album at least had some freshness in it, but it's still over rated.

    What happened?

They made some of the best progressive rock of the 70's, and then they made some of the best pop rock of the 80's. They have floundered quite a bit in the last 20+ years, but those first 20 years were something else.

I really like The Ladder. A new commercial direction, but I think the album worked really well.

Fantastic tour, as well. A shame Igor had to be sacked, I would have liked to have heard more with him.

Similar time/similar situation, except that ELP combined the individual contributions on one album. Critical opinion held that Works Vol. I was subpar. Not in my book!

All the Big 4 of progressive (King Crimson, Yes, ELP, Genesis) went through massive transformation during that period. Yes continued on, tried to ask New Wave elements by folding The Buggles into the group for Drama, then were completely gone until 90125. King Crimson and ELP folded up during the 2nd half of the decade, and both reemerged in different forms during the 80's.

Different approaches were needed. It was a given that these musicians were far too talented to be without work for very long. UK was considered progressive's last "great white hope."

Combining progressive with fusion had wheels, but the potential rewards of arena rock were to strong to pass up. Hence, former members King Crimson, UK, ELP and Yes were in Asia. Meanwhile, Genesis and Yes moved in a more mainstream direction.

They got a bit lost sometime in 1987, until 1998, and then pretty much got lost again.

Drama is one of their best albums.

1978 wasnt a good year for Prog in general and most of the greats released some Turkey"s I.e. Genesis- And Then they Where Tripe, Gentle Giant- Giants for a Day, Camel- Breathless, ELP- Love Beach. Whilst Tormato wasnt a classic it was the best of a bad bunch of releases at the time.

I'd take Genesis and Camel's records any day. Both don't sound like a band falling apart to start with.

No way. Funnily enough I got out ATTWT only yesterday from the box set and played the 5:1 disc to see if time has been more kind to it but it's as bad as I remembered it to be.For many Genesis had fallen apart when Hackett left.'ll give Breathless another try.

"Owner" gives a bad false impression of its parent album. 90125 is not in the same league as Close To the Edge or Going For the one, but most of it is pretty solid and interesting. "Owner" is probably the 2nd worst track on the album.

It's mostly Richard Sinclair that makes it work for me. It's got a lot of great bass lines.

I'll say this much about Tormato... I'm convinced it is their most underrated.

Personally, I'll take it over anything from the 80's.
