A mostly forgotten Dylan gem, even though it's been covered by Odetta, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, and maybe a few others.

    This is my favorite version.

So forgotten , that it’s the only Van album not included on Spotify!

I was going to pan the member who had convinced himself that 'A period of Transition ' was a forgotten gem .
Instead I am playing all those tracks off his myriad albums that would have made an alternative best of as opposed to the [ worthy] tracks that appear on his "best of' albums.
Just like this one remembering his Belfast past .

Alice Cooper's "New Wave" albums from 1980-83 (Flush the Fashion, Special Forces, Zipper Catches Skin, and DaDa) have some great songs that might as well have been completely forgotten. For example, "I Love America":

Speaking of Sinatra and late 60s forgotten things, any feelings on the Bob Gaudio produced Watertown LP?

My favorite all time Bruce song!
And though I've seen Bruce about 30 or 40 or more times over the years I've only ever seen him do Backstreets twice out of all those dates!
And to add insult to injury he no longer sings it the way he sang it on BTR!! Arrrghhhhh!!
He sings it in some mock operatic meets Okie from Muskogee type drawl, since at least the BITUSA tour.
    Just unlucky I guess.

My understanding is that this was supposed to be from a session (s) done with Leon Russell which for reasons unknown didn't work out.
Don't know what happened but this track is great.
" What's the matter with me? I don't have much to say !"
Would have been a terrific album opener.

But it was on both the White and Blue album and those albums have sold millions around the world.
And although it only reached #49 it was a U.S. single in 1976.

    Absolutely

  14. It’s also on the CD so a little more might be aware.

  15. It was used as the closing credits for Inner Space. Cool that Joe Dante thought of it.

    Lou Reed - "Legendary Hearts"

His best album, in my opinion.

Right. I should have said it was not a big hit. I actually have the 1976 45 in my collection.

  19. I think it is in Van’s big discography. It stands in the shadows of what came before it and after. It also has some underrated gems on it.

For me, it's the early pre-Steely Dan demos by Becker and Fagen. I have to admit, I never took to Steely Dan when they were popular. But my ex-wife picked up a tape of these demos with an earlier, gritter version of "Brooklyn" and that sounded great to me.

We explored deeper and it was only when I heard Becker-Fagen music without the studio gloss that I got the brilliance of their songs. This stuff was my gateway into the band itself. I'm now a big fan.

Not to mention "Car Crazy Cutie" from the same album. One of Brian's greatest leads in the early days.

Many Sinatra singles but for now I'll throw this one out there.

I will add another from Fleetwood Mac. This is even more dubious since the song was a big hit later but not from Fleetwood Mac (well.. sort of.)

A cover of it was also used as the theme song to the TV series “Life Goes On” in the US. That probably helped it’s popularity among Gen-Xers.
