A thread for all of the songs that were hits (not obscure) in the 80's but that are now obscure and forgotten by most. I came across this song on you tube that was a #12 UK hit in 1982 and yet I don't think that I've ever heard it until now. Beatles fans into George Harrison's Indian inspired songs may appreciate this one
Jimmy the Hoover - Tantalise (Wo Wo Ee Yeh Yeh) #18 in the UK charts. It was on TV quite a lot at the time so I thought it got a bit higher than that.
Exactly. Someone brought it up in another thread, I gave it a listen and thought: Oh yeah, I remember that! I had no idea how the song goes just from the title, though. Here, on the other hand, is a #4 U.S. hit I don’t remember hearing at all: Terence Trent D’Arby’s (or whatever his current name is) “Sign Your Name.” If I did hear it, it made no lasting impression.
I heard this on Radio Caroline Flashback for the first time ever and I had no idea who it was and had to go to their website to the “What’s Playing Now” section to get the answer. I never would’ve guessed the answer; great song though.
I remember this tune early 1980 driving in Brooklyn N.Y. in a big rear end Ford. A gem a forgotten gem indeed.
A #10 Billboard Hot 100 hit in 1980, this marked the comeback for an underappreciated Motown singer. It also became very popular on the dance floors, especially in the gay clubs of New York. But because of legal red tape, it is basically impossible to find on CD. "Hold On to My Love" by Jimmy Ruffin
No forgotten at all here in France at least. His signature song is on the playlist of many gold format radio programs here.
Met this guy at a party in Montreal. Huge ego. Said he was going to be as big as the Stones. I guess he can say that if he wants to.
