I know there are lots of examples of former band members guesting at concerts, but can you think of any examples of when they have appeared on their former band's album in a guest role (not rejoining the band)?

Phil Collins guested on some Peter Gabriel albums. I am not sure if Peter had much to do with the Carpet Crawlers re-released single for Genesis though

I seem to recall hearing a rumor that Syd Barrett was supposed to guest on Atom Heart Mother. Possibly in some capacity on Alan's Psychadelic Breakfast, but the idea didn't come to fruition.
