On Sunday I found a MFSL Half Speed Master of Michael Jackson’s Thriller in my basement. YIKES!!!!

Last Saturday I connected my turntable to my new system. This is the first time in over five years that I have been able to listen to vinyl.

Anyway, on Sunday I unpacked all my LP’s and 45’s. I found the following MFSL half-speed masters:

    Beatles--- White Album
Moody Blues--- Days of Future Past
    Fleetwood Mac---Fleetwood Mac
    Barbara Streisand---Greatest Hits Vol.2

I also found a bunch of Dave Clark Five LP’s., unfortunately most are in reprocessed stereo. However, I did find a mono LP of “I Like It Like That”.
My wife is out of town this week.

TIME TO CRANK UP THE STEREO AND SPIN SOME VINYL!!!

MFSL never did Thriller or Streisand, either they are bootleg or they are on Columbia Mastersound.

  11. That Michael Bolton find got me all worked up . . .so I slouched off the couch and went down into MY basement to look for those missing cd's . . .

Well, I'll be darned. Next to the remains of Jimmy Hoffa was this STILL SEALED cd. I'm a gonna eBay! the mother tomorrow after I recover from this hangover.

Babs Streisand - Greatest Hits Volume 2 was released by Columbia as a Half Speed Master Recording - Columbia HC 45679.

According to a Michael Jackson fan site, the Thriller - Half Speed Master Recording is mega rare.

    Yes, they are CBS Mastersounds.
The Jackson CBS is not mega rare, it and the Streisand LP are a dime a dozen.

Question on those Michael Bolton and Bobby Goldsboro gold discs, which sounds better, the UD1 or The UDII ?

Half speed Thriller: As mastersound half speeds go this is one of the more "rare" issues, it used to command a higher than average price for a Mastersound, but like almost all audiophile vinyl of that era ( except for the DCC's and MFSL's ) it has dropped a lot in value over the last 5 or 10 years.
The M.J. website statement could be considered at least partially correct for that reason, and the fact that compared to the millions and millions of standard pressings the half speed is "mega-rare", relatively speaking.

The UD1 for sure! Maybe we could do a/b comparisons.

  20. Ed Bishop

Ed Bishop Incredibly, I'm still here

All we need now is an MFSL SOUL PROVIDER, some Lionel Richie, then we'd really be in business.....:D

BTW, Magic, great job on the Bolton. Now all you need is a gold disc to go with it, and presto! Instant collectible.....one of a kind, even....

I'm afraid the only collectibility a Michael Bolton gold CD would have, is for recycling the gold for future cavity fillings!!!!:D

I think what you meant to ask about the Michael Bolton is which one sounds less bad.:(

  23. I played the Bobby disk last night to verify condition. I don't know how the UDII behaves, but the needle slid right off the UDI. Mebbe I need to adjust my vertical tracking angle.

These two disks (found at the same time) played all the way thru, albeit with minor surface noise.
