Anyone compare the MFSL CD version of this with the latest "deluxe" version? A copy ends in about 4 hours on ebay, so any quick comments are appreciated...

    Todd,

Haven't got the remaster but the MFSL delivers. FYI ;)

The deluxe remaster is HDCD. So if you hate HDCD, you know what to do! :)

Interesting... My CD player is HDCD, but I went ahead and put a bid on the MFSL. Oh well, if I win, I can always get both. It's not like the first time I have done so!:p

    Gary,

Thanks for the scoop. I like HDCD, so I guess I would enjoy it. I have the MFSL and I find it be good but, slightly bright, the best I have heard, however.

    Bob :)

    What's wrong with HDCD?

Keep in mind there are two fairly recent issues, the remaster from a few years back, and the Deluxe Edition, which has been totally remixed.

Hey, Luke, there is nothing wrong with HDCD in my view! But others have complained of them being too bright or "unfocused" when played in non HDCD players. I was just trying to give a neutral viewpoint.

Just because I like HDCD, you won't see me going around saying it's the best thing to happen to redbook CDs since sliced bread and everyone should seek them out!

That's all.... just the way I am....

Right you are, Dave - excellent sonics on this one!

Had a chance to met Peter backstage a couple of years ago and, as he signed the sleeve for my MFSL Gold CD set he mentioned that this issue was the best-sounding that was out there...including the vinyl.

FWIW - it is his record.

    Best,

    Ben

I'd agree with Mr. Frampton although, I don't know about the vinyl. ;)

My point: If anyone says the Mofi sounds better than the Deluxe edition... I only can shake with my head!!!

This Deluxe is one of the best remixes, I've ever heard!!! And I'm sure mastermind Steve Hoffman will agree with my opinion. It beats the Mofi easily...

    Claus,

If it's that good compared to the MFSL, I gotta hear it!

Can you give us any specifics as to how it sounds?

Okay... I'm honest Peter Frampton's Frampton Comes Alive doesn't belong to my favorites, but the sound quality is far superior against the first pressing and the Mofi remaster.

The Mofi was slightly better than the first pressing, but this remix is the winner in all points! The sound is much clearer... not as muddy as the Mofi! By the way... I still have the Mofi release on gold and vinyl. You can hear the bottom end, and not only undefined bass.

Conclusion: The original LP pressings were unlistenable... the CD pressings too! And I a/b'd with my system many times.

You can't go wrong with the Deluxe Edition... believe me

Thanks Claus! I'll definately pick it up in a month or so and I'll be sure to let you know MHO. Maybe we'll agree on this one?:D ;)

I agree with Claus here. the remix is actually a much better representation to the actual sound. I concider the original live album a quicikie "remix" while they took their time and used a few songs they left off on the HDCD "Deluxe" version. The deluxe version is actually more enjoyable sonically, and the over-emphesized croud banter isn't on the HDCD.

The MFSL is a wonderful representation of the original album. My choice is the HDCD, but I woulnd't throw away my MFSL.

Peter also signed my copy of the Deluxe Edition. I have both the last remaster and the newer Deluxe Ed.
I also think the Deluxe is worth picking up. It also has a few more songs from that concert.

So, what ever happened to the DVD-A? Sounds like it could be a winner.
