Spring 1962, London buzzed with rumors: Frank Sinatra was on his way to town to record an album. In June came true aspirations. "Sinatra Sings Great Songs from Great Britain" was his first - and only, as it turned out - album he recorded outside the United States.

The album is the backbone of this box set of three CDs and one DVD filled with delights from London with Ol 'Blue Eyes. The box contains the original album, plus 50 previously unreleased tracks, including the BBC's "Light Programme" in 1963, and live recordings from 1953 and 1984, and filmed concert recordings from 1962 and 1970 on DVD.>>

Great Songs From Great Britain is a stunning, underrated album. I may pick this set up.

    From Frank's Facebook page:

‘SINATRA: LONDON’ collects Frank Sinatra’s only British studio recordings and a treasure trove of other U.K. highlights in new 3CD+DVD and digital collection to be released November 25

‘Sinatra: LONDON’ contains more than 50 unreleased tracks

For several weeks during the spring of 1962, London’s music scene buzzed with the rumour that Frank Sinatra was to record a new album there. Indeed, in June that year, the iconic star travelled to the U.K. to record Sinatra Sings Great Songs From Great Britain. Recorded over three consecutive nights at London’s CTS Studios, Great Songs From Great Britain would be the only album Sinatra would ever record outside of the United States. On November 25, Universal Music Enterprises & Frank Sinatra Enterprises will release Sinatra: LONDON, a deluxe 3CD+DVD and digital audio collection presenting the remastered original studio album with a treasure trove of other London highlights from Sinatra’s career. The expansive set’s more than 50 previously unreleased recordings include session material from the album, a 1962 BBC “Light Programme” radio special with introductions to each song by Sinatra himself, a 1953 live session for BBC Radio’s “The Show Band Show”, and a Royal Albert Hall concert from 1984. The collection’s DVD features a previously unreleased filmed 1962 concert from Royal Festival Hall, plus a 1970 concert appearance from the same venue with a never before released performance of the classic song “A Foggy Day”.

The sleek book-style set includes a 60-page booklet with a new essay by producer, filmmaker, songwriter, music publisher and author, Ken Barnes, who attended the Great Songs From Great Britain sessions; the album’s original liner notes, newly-written track notes, details about Sinatra’s many visits to the U.K., and several photos of Sinatra in London: onstage, in the studio, and about town. The new collection also includes two exclusive art print reproductions of original London concert posters, and a unique studio panorama from the 1962 recording sessions for Great Songs From Great Britain.

That DVD is what will make me buy the set. I have a feeling they're stretching the sauce a tad on the CDs. I'm still happy to see a new Sinatra Set come out with unreleased material.

BEAUUUUUTIFUL!!!! That '84 concert is a rarity...maybe with Buddy Rich band...not sure as I am away from my collection. And to have a clear, CLEAN video/DVD of the finest of the fine World Tour concert (6/1/62) is worth the price of admission! That BBC radio spot on the making of the GSFGB album is a joy, too.

    DRINKS ALL AROUND, FOLKS!!!!!:pineapple:

I just noticed a considerable amount of session material, too! This is HUGE as Nancy has always considered that to be taboo. This will show the world the great difficulty Mr. S had in recording this album. It will help dispel the "1 Take Charlie" label some throw on him.

I was teasing , my post wasn't in reference of the announcement -Infact I could have made the announcement myself- I just know ( like the rest of us Sinatra fans) how exciting this news is and wondered why Bob wasn't here to share it with us.

As we all know the 1962 World Tour was filmed by Sinatra. Australia 1961 also exists as it was broadcast on Australian TV. Hopefully it will one day be released.

The DVD has 2 concerts: 62 and 1970. The 62 concert was previously released on a 2 CD set from South America. They also released on the same label the Jerusalem concert.
