Thought I'd start a thread on this compilation, which is now streaming. Reprise Rarities (Vol. 1) Open Qobuz
Thanks been looking for a thread on this. Just found out about it now. Nothing unreleased on this but it’s “ Volume one “ so who knows we might get some of the stuff they couldn’t find for the suitcase. peace and love✌Dave

I wish they'd release a box set of the rarities included in the Complete Reprise Recordings box set, but I know that's never going to happen, not at this point in time.
A radio special, hosted by Charles Pignone, is airing right now on Siriusly Sinatra (SiriusXM channel 71). Full schedule at SFF: "Sinatra: Reprise Rarities" Special
Yeah, they are really spoiling us with that artwork and a digital download consisting of all of 13 tracks. Considering the control Sinatra had over his career, the music and the artwork, I'm sure he'd be overjoyed and proud of this half-hearted (and I'm being nice 'n' easy here), new release/series!
At the conclusion of the SiriusXM special, Charlie Pignone states, “More volumes of Reprise rarities will be released in the coming months.”
I have most of these tracks already, but downloaded this comp anyway to show support and match the hopefully upcoming Vol. 2. Glad to see them getting a release in 2020!
OK...picky, picky me... You would think since this release is to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Reprise, they would have picked something "rare" from Mr. S's Ring-a-Ding-Ding sessions that would actually BE 60 years old. Oh, something like "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart".
Anyone know which mixes were used? Original mono when appropriate, or Reprise suitcase stereo mixes? EDIT: I listened to some Qobuz samples...stereo mixes of the early 60s tracks that had samples available.
As I only know the basic info about his Reprise catalog, can anyone chime in as to why these tracks are labeled rarities?
some are/were bonus tracks when the cds were issued--ie, not part of the 'album sessions' I'm not saying IMO that qualifies them to be rarities, but it appears to be the link in many Smile Again and Come Fly were recorded for A Man and his Music lp............maybe catalog strays is a better title.
I think they’re probably starting off ‘softly’ on the rarities front as the draw in buyers/listeners of Sinatra’s mainstream stuff like Come Fly With Me. In this case it is the full length version of the Reprise version, which I’d call a rarity if not for Nothing But The Best. It will, hopefully, get rarer as the series goes on.
I remember when “As You Desire Me” and “Don’t Take Your Love from Me” which were left off of the original “Sinatra & Strings” LP appeared on a Japanese Reprise reissue circa 1980. We all ordered that from the Sinatra “distributors” and thought we had really had SOMETHING in our collections. It is still my “go-t0” pressing after all these decades.
That reminds me of when I got a couple of the Jonzo Chronological Crosby CDs and found tracks that I’d never heard before that are rare.
I LOVE those two songs! I have the outtakes of both as well and I can't believe that they ended up using the take of "Don't Take Your Love Away From Me", where it sounds like they did a bad edit near the end, where Frank sings the final "me". It sounds like he sings it twice ..., "me/me". The "sound" of those "Sinatra & Strings" songs are crazy bad, but I so love Don Costa's arrangements on that album!
