Plus the fact that he was in such good voice for Swingin' Brass. Listened to 4/10 session tapes last night and, despite some hefty throat-clearing at times, he breezed through the recording process. The only reasons for any multiple takes were either creative reasons on Mr. S's part or a rare "clam" from the band.

BTW, it wasn't until last evening reading the sessionography notes that I realized the great Gerald Wilson was a part of the trumpet section.

Which is the Capitol album you prefer Bob Norberg to Larry Walsh's mastering ?

None, at least according to Matt Lutthan:

    Capitol Scorecard

In general, Norberg's efforts sound electronically processed, often adding fake stereo effects, plus they're marred by bad quality control (eg., various "farts" on CTY).

I believe the question refers to the sentence by @AJH in the (very old) post quoted immediately before.

Cheez, that was a long time ago, but it referred to only a single album, certainly not the complete body of Bob Norberg's work..

The 3CD release must surely have more tracks than the 2LP version, right? But they only provide a track listing for the LPs.

Ah yes...what collection of Mr. S's "best album tracks" would be complete without "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown"?????????

    Doubtful.

My guess: Quick-and-dirty compilations, rushed to market for holiday season buyers.

After reading a bit about this label on this forum, I suspect the same. I had hoped for an unprocessed 1984 "Mack The Knife." As it seems, the best we can hope for would be a collection of pre-"Nothing But The Best" masterings. Still would not be too attractive for those of use who already own all or the majority of Frank's catalog. I'm afraid, however, it will be same atrocious mastrings we've now had for close to a decade and a half.

    [ From SFF discographer Andrew Trager… ]

Just a quick observation... I think this will be the first CD release of "Anytime (I'll Be There)" outside of the Complete Reprise box.

"I Believe I'm Gonna Love You" and "Dry Your Eyes" appeared on the 1988 Arcade CD.

It's a shame that the planned remastering of "It Might As Well Be Swing" on 180g vinyl has been postponed indefinitely. It would be such a worthy addition...especially if they wisely used the MONO masters!
