Album thread: Sinatra / Reprise Sound Quality and General Discussion: "Sinatra and Swingin' Brass" - 1962* And this in another thread about the reason for the two-night rush on the Neal Hefti album: Frank Sinatra on Reprise appreciation thread! (post #1055)
Plus the fact that he was in such good voice for Swingin' Brass. Listened to 4/10 session tapes last night and, despite some hefty throat-clearing at times, he breezed through the recording process. The only reasons for any multiple takes were either creative reasons on Mr. S's part or a rare "clam" from the band. BTW, it wasn't until last evening reading the sessionography notes that I realized the great Gerald Wilson was a part of the trumpet section.
None, at least according to Matt Lutthan: Capitol Scorecard In general, Norberg's efforts sound electronically processed, often adding fake stereo effects, plus they're marred by bad quality control (eg., various "farts" on CTY).
Re: Old posts never die… I believe the question refers to the sentence by @AJH in the (very old) post quoted immediately before.
Cheez, that was a long time ago, but it referred to only a single album, certainly not the complete body of Bob Norberg's work..
I read about this on another forum: Frank Sinatra - Music On Vinyl Could be interesting if this release utilizes flat transfers.
“Frank Sinatra Collected is available as a 2LP, housed in a gatefold sleeve with liner notes inside. 10.000 individually numbered copies are pressed on ‘Sinatra’ gold coloured vinyl.” “In association with Frank Sinatra Enterprises … Also available as 3CD digipack” Label: Music On Vinyl / Music on CD Release Date: 21 October 2022 Cat. # (2LP): MOVLP-3149 [Barcode: 0600753961070] Cat. # (3CD): MOCCD-14245 [Barcode: 0600753961049]
The 3CD release must surely have more tracks than the 2LP version, right? But they only provide a track listing for the LPs.
Amazon UK links for future details: Frank Sinatra Collected (Gatefold sleeve) [180 gm 2LP Coloured Vinyl] Frank Sinatra Collected (3CD): Amazon.co.uk: CDs & Vinyl
See: Frank Sinatra · Collected (CD) [Limited Gold edition] (2022) (74 tracks on 3 CDs) vs. (31 tracks on 2 LPs)
Ah yes...what collection of Mr. S's "best album tracks" would be complete without "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown"?????????
After reading a bit about this label on this forum, I suspect the same. I had hoped for an unprocessed 1984 "Mack The Knife." As it seems, the best we can hope for would be a collection of pre-"Nothing But The Best" masterings. Still would not be too attractive for those of use who already own all or the majority of Frank's catalog. I'm afraid, however, it will be same atrocious mastrings we've now had for close to a decade and a half.
The CD set was just added to Amazon.com as an import—“Currently unavailable”: Frank Sinatra - Collected - Ltd 3CD Digipack - Amazon.com Music I expect the vinyl release will follow on the US Amazon site, with full details available soon.
Complete track listings, for comparison, on this imusic (UK) website: Frank Sinatra · Collected (LP) [Limited edition] (2022) Frank Sinatra · Collected (CD) [Limited Gold edition] (2022) It appears the recordings are in chronological order, and the 2LP is a cutdown of the 3CD set.
[ From SFF discographer Andrew Trager… ] Just a quick observation... I think this will be the first CD release of "Anytime (I'll Be There)" outside of the Complete Reprise box. "I Believe I'm Gonna Love You" and "Dry Your Eyes" appeared on the 1988 Arcade CD.
It's a shame that the planned remastering of "It Might As Well Be Swing" on 180g vinyl has been postponed indefinitely. It would be such a worthy addition...especially if they wisely used the MONO masters!
