I just listened to the first show last night. As I was listening Torture really stood out on it for me. So much so I played it twice. Hahah Just my 2 cents.
I put a spiffy 4-disc set together right after this first came out. Revenge of the Knick Knack People is from a boot but I included it since the tape was played at the start of the shows. I made sure to include one version of everything performed during the run. No fancy editing required, just copy and paste the tracks. The set is called FrankenZtein: Disc One 1. Revenge of the Knick Knack People (6:21) 2. Show Start (1:30) (10/30) 3. Stink-Foot (7:45) (10/30) 4. Dirty Love (2:32) (10/30) 5. Peaches en Regalia (2:42) (10/28 late) 6. The Torture Never Stops (12:33) (10/28 late) 7. Tryin' to Grow a Chin (3:37) (10/28 late) 8. City of Tiny Lites (8:17) (10/31) Disc Two 1. Pound for a Brown (13:40) (10/31) 2. The Demise of the Imported Rubber Goods Mask (8:33) (10/31) 3. Bobby Brown Goes Down (9:12) (10/29 late) 4. Conehead (9:18) (10/28 late) 5. Flakes (4:03) (10/28 early) 6. Big Leg Emma (1:58) (10/31) 7. I Have Been in You (8:35) (10/30) 8. Dancin' Fool (4:50) (10/30) 9. Jewish Princess (4:41) (10/30) Disc Three 1. King Kong (8:45) (10/30) 2. That is an excellent set! It is in my view what ZFT should have released, not in place of the big box, but rather than the three disc set from the 31st. Having said the above, apart from Lather and Wild love, I would find disc 3 hard to listen to, I cut all but one of those tracks from my compilation, because quite frankly, they bored the hell out of me.
Since we're discussing this set again, one oddity I found the other day. "Tryin' To Grow A Chin" and the first half of "City Of Tiny Lights" from October 29 early seem to have synth overdubs. The synth parts aren't heard in other shows, and in "Tiny Lights" you can also hear Wolf and Mars playing their usual piano and organ parts that I think would not have left their hands free to play those synth parts. Maybe an unused part for the film or Sheik?
Wow that's awesome! Would love to hear that! I do some minor editing myself at times on Roxio Toast but that is way beyond what I could probably do. That being said I may try this with my 77' set someday if I can find the time.
Does anyone know what the font type that is used for the track listings on Halloween 77 is? I'm creating my own highlights CD and need to find this font. Please can someone help?
You might want to post a specific question in Off Topic as there are some font experts on the forum there.
I'm buying these shows individually from Juno Downloads at £12.49 each but there is no PDF Booklet for the set included, does anyone know how I can get a copy of the PDF booklet that came with this set?
Does anyone know, if the contact for the replacement track is still active? I got my box some days ago and still have no answer to my mail….
[email protected]. ?? Initial response was same day, a few hour after I emailed them. Try it again. Are you the first owner of box?
What's the story with the replacement track? I have the box, but haven't gotten around to listening to it yet...
In "Wild Love" from the October 28 second show, there was an editing mistake so the second verse was repeated. Once this error was reported here, the Zappa Trust was kind enough to offer a replacement.
Yes, I got it new from the Zappa Shop (which is hifientertainment 24/7 or so). I was wondering, because I did not get a replacement upon ordering (as stated on the initial notification from zappa.com back in 2017) and the aforementioned address or the contact for hifientertainment did not answer my mail. Guess I'll wait some more days and will write a new mail to them, if I don't get a response..
Try [email protected] again. They responded quickly with a link to download the track. The link would not work and took a bit to resolve, but they did help me to get a replacement track (persistence paid off).
Thanks for your answer. I don't know, why they do not answer to my mails. Maybe I should spam them, until they give me any response... Did you receive your replacement back in 2017?
I did purchase originally when it was released. I hadn't pursued the replacement track download until May 202o (last year). I sent them an email with a picture of my box (showing limited edition XXX of 5000). They sent me a link to download.
I can't find the corrected version online anymore. The incorrect version of "Wild Love" from 10/28/77 #2 with the repeated verse runs 26:01.
Frank Zappa - Halloween 77 [Note: Zappa Records discovered that a track on the Halloween 77 Box Set has an error. The faulty track is “Wild Love” from Show 2, 10-28-77. Zappa Records is happy to provide legitimate buyers with the corrected track (track-time shortens from 26:01 to 24:57) via e-mail, see Halloween 77 Box Set Track Error].
