I don't think that far ahead. But the new Orchestral Favorites will be nice to hear.

That is a scary thought. I can still remember buying my import vinyl copy from Penny Lane Records in Liverpool (upstairs at the long gone Church Street shop). Seems like only yesterday. Where did the time go?

I like Thing fish better then Absolutely free.
Took me awhile though, at first I was disappointed.
I was disappointed in Uncle Meat and Joe's garage too, at first, to be honest.

Frank Zappa 1983-1987: The transition to CD

In addition to my original post in the new thread, let me say that I don't consider the CDs for The Man From Utopia, LSO, The Perfect Stranger or Thing-Fish to have bad sound quality. The issues are with the differences in mixes and edits, which I address in the new thread.

The CD for Orchestral Favorites sounds bad to me and many others.

I like the vinyl version quite a bit. I think it’s a better album than Drowning Witch.

So is it safe to assume that 40th anniversary vinyl release is not AAA like most of the other Zappa vinyl reissues? The only thing I can find on the official announcement is that the CD was mastered from a new high-res transfer of the original master tape. Nothing about an all-analog chain like most of the other announcements have. I presume that the new vinyl release is mastered from the same high-res transfer.

Hi-res transfers from the original tapes have been completed, and with mastering by Bob Ludwig, the audio quality is now better than ever. The bonus concert features brand new mixes for 2019 by Craig Parker Adams, taken from the original two-inch, 24-track masters. The digital deluxe edition, which mirrors the 3CD version, includes an instant grat download of ‘Revised Music For Low-Budget Symphony Orchestra,’ available in this version for the first time.

There will also be a vinyl edition of Orchestral Favorites, with the original album mastered by Bernie Grundman and the newly-created anniversary art and cover. This will be pressed at Furnace MFG on 180 gram, audiophile grade black vinyl.

I saw the part about the vinyl. My post was basically addressing the likelihood that the vinyl is mastered from the high-res files and not all-analog.

Pre ordered this, obviously. Count me as a happy one for a normal type regular cd expanded edition. No manhole or costume necessary.

Yes, with the proper alignment tones this time, which weren't used on the original mastering. Digital step or not, it'll likely beat the pants off the original vinyl.

It's an interesting Hoffman Board phenomenon, wherein the experts and the uberfans yak on for days and days, sight unseen, and then once the actual release date comes and goes...crickets...

...and then somebody will post, "yeah, got it yesterday...might have time to open the package once my acne clears up", or, "it's shipped"...

...or, my favorite: "listening to it right now!...I'll have time to write more once I watch the season finale of Younger", or some horse**** excuse...
