That is correct. The packaging is identical, so the timings printed on the back covers are identical. You have to put the CD in a player to see the actual timing.

I just checked out my Ryko aluminum copies of Apostrophe and One Size Fits All. I lucked out with the latter title. Po-jama People clocks in at 7:43. No such luck with Apostrophe.

Scored OSFA today at a record show ,
Pojama clocks @ 7:43 , is it certain these
are identical to the AU20 ?

I am pretty sure that Au20 mastering in '95 packaging is:
    - rare for Apostrophe
    - common for OSFA (possibly even more common than the reverb'd one)

Does the gold AU20 hold more
information than the silver equivalent ?

No. The Au 20 gold versions used the original mixes--not the remixes.

    I mean't does a gold cd hold
more information than an aluminum ,
thus sounding better than the standard
packaged ones with the AU20 masters ?

I was wondering if anyone has done a comparison of the Au20 Apostrophe and the recent 2012 remaster?

Is it worth seeking out yhe gold or is the remaster just as good?

I prefer the AU20, sounds a little more natural and less compressed than the remaster. That being said the remaster is very good as well, and worth getting if you don't want to spend the money for the gold CD.

Have a 1995 Ryko CD of Apostrophe & the disc shows that the running time for track 8 is 2:49. Never knew there were two different ones out there!

Bought it around the time it was released. One of my favourite Zappa albums.

Thanks. I do have those from Ryko and I don't plan on replacing them/buying new copies with the 2012 CD, so it's good to check what I have.

Seems like you are right. My "Apostrophe (')" is the regular Ryko (also, I'm familiar with the vinyl mix, so I would have noticed by now) but "One Size Fits All" is the Au20 mastering. I always thought my CD sounded very good and I didn't get the criticism on all the non-Au20 copies. Now I know why :)

Haven't heard either, I heard the original mix from my vinyl, but I read from various sources that "Cosmik Debris" has a slight speed glitch at the beginning of the AU20 version which makes one of the notes out of tune. This doesn't mean that the rest of the album doesn't sound better though, just saying...

Im like the remasters more. I find the AUs too bass-heavy.

If I didn't have the Au20 clones, I would get the remasters. They sound very good.

Subtleties will make some prefer one version over the others, but I would recommend either the Au20, Au20 clone, or the Zappa/UMe remaster.

It's there, but it's incredibly subtle. I played the disc dozens of times through speakers and headphones and never noticed it until it was pointed out to me.

I don't hear anything different. And I am very picky. Point it out to me.

I have the AU20 and 2012 remaster. I have played the first two seconds over and over on both. I don't hear any glitch. I guess it must be very subtle then for me to miss it. Is this "glitch" possibly on the Japan AU20 only?
