Fred Thompson to appear on 2 Law & Orders

I know actor Fred Thomspon has appeared a couple of times on Law & Order - Special Victims Unit, however a new CNN story says he will appear next season on both the original Law & Order and the new Law & Order - Trial By Jury.

Actor to play DA on 'Trial by Jury'

NEW YORK (AP) -- Fred Thompson will do double duty on two "Law & Order" shows.

Thompson, 62, a former U.S. senator from Tennessee, will continue to play Manhattan District Attorney Arthur Branch on the original series. He also will take the character to "Law & Order: Trial by Jury," the fourth installment of the NBC franchise, which is set to premiere next spring.

"Obviously, Fred is a welcome and quite necessary component of 'Law & Order: Trial By Jury' since the action takes place inside the legal system and he is the district attorney," executive producer and series creator Dick Wolf told The Associated Press Wednesday in an e-mail.

"Law & Order: Trial by Jury" will star Jerry Orbach, also of the original "Law & Order" series, as police Detective Lennie Briscoe. The series also will star Bebe Neuwirth, Kirk Acevedo and Amy Carlson.

"Law & Order: Trial by Jury" will join "Law & Order," "Law & Order: SVU" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."

Some of you may remember Kirk Acevedo from Oz. He played the Miguel Alvarez character. Amy Carlson was on Third Watch for one season and will be able to get her name on that Web site dedicated to actors who have played different characters in more than one Law & Order episode/show. Carlson was on the season opener of the original Law & Order this year in the "Dead Wives Club" episode. Carlson previously appeared in an L&O - SVU episode back in 2000.

With this lineup of actors, Dick Wolfe and NBC are sure to have another hit on their hands.
