Also, the pink "i" label versions of "FIRE AND WATER" feature a different mix of the title track which was switched when the label design changed.
Good question. As far as I know, the alternate mix is only on the first UK pressing. Not sure about worldwide pressings.
And of course the original UK 45s of "Broad Daylight", "I'll Be Creepin'", "All Right Now" and "Stealer" all feature alternate mixes from the LP versions.
I will have to go through the Songs of Yesterday cd box, the 2001 remaster of F&W along with the double cd. We have a fair bit of alternate stuff on official cd but I am not an expert. I don't really care for modern remixes but hearing alternate mixes from the original period (like the Zeppelin bonus stuff) is always fun. Will have to needledrop my Free singles at some point.
I have had the Free Live album from just after release, it was my first real LP purchase of a Band having progressed through the K-Tel Hits lp's. It has bugged me for years as to what T-Rex song it was at the start of the Lp before the band are introduced on stage. Does anyone know the T-Rex song? the only lyric I can catch is something like 'you and I can draw the sky/stars, we've got to fly'' I know this can't be the correct lyrics I've googled variations and came with nothing. Since opening this thread, I've been going through T-Rex songs before 1971 on spotify and still cant find anything like it. Any one got any ideas. it's in the first 10 seconds on the LP but not on the Cd if I recall correctly.
Good to see that Songs of Yesterday is still available at a good price. I would say a great box set and possibly that will be it for unreleased material until Mr Rodgers has a change of heart.
thanks just gave that a spin but don't this it is that, but there seems so many TR tunes with a similar vibe I wouldn't put any money on it either way. sorry to the Op, I didn't mean to hi-jack thread off topic
Thanks to Gary the thread title is now right! On this page you can find some interesting information, reliable hope: Chrome Oxide - Music Collectors pages - Free - 09/05/2017
I would say the 2017 box for the price is worth it over the individual 2016 remasters. The 2016s don't sound better on my system.
RRB have you heard the Japanese Platinum remasters from a few years back? I have them but never compared them with the Andy Pearce 2016 remasters. I wonder how both compare to the box Songs of Yesterday? Will have to compare all three when I have time.
