I have no idea what’s going on with this streaming app I discovered on my Roku. All the movies claim to be from 2020 or 2022. They have nice, not perfect, but nice transfers. The audio gives away the low bit rate. Subtitles are MIA. New titles are added and removed daily.

Whoa, some films have Criterion credits up front. Go figure?

    Here’s what I found through their awful interface;

The Devils, the 113 minutes cut.
    Death In Venice
    If
    O Lucky Man!
    Barry Lyndon
Frankenstein: The True Story 186 minutes. I saw this in November 1973 on NBC. I was 7 years old.
    Africa Addio
    The Damned

Some of these are free elsewhere, but I’m just looking at this one app.

Yeah, good channel. I saw they have Aguirre the Wrath of God and The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser, a lot of good stuff.

Movieland appears to have a checkered past, if the "Movieland" wiki entry is the same as "Movieland Tv". You also can find some discussion about it on Reddit, and there have been reports of the app just showing up unbidden, on both Roku and Firestick.

I'm approaching with caution until I can find out more about it from a legit information source.

I appreciate that it’s iffy, but if it was completely unlicensed, I’m sure the cease and desist letter would get Roku to shut it down.

A little late on this, but Movieland TV has been up and running for a few years and keeps on running. As pointed out, some of the titles are a little iffy and some seem to have been copied from tapes of other channels. Somehow the channel keeps on going - and advertising. I've watched it constantly seen I first hit on it because of the plethora of classic movies on there - I figured one of these days it would get taken down, so I wanted to make hay while the sun shone. They do keep adding titles, and the search facility is kind of lousy in that it only shows a certain amount of titles for every first letter that you search on titles - so if you put in the letter 'A' it will list 25 films beginning with that letter, even if there might be 40 or 50. So unless you want to go further with Ab, Ac, Ad, etc it's hard to get an idea of everything that's available. Annoyingly, if you look under the letter 'T' it lists everything under 'The', so it's difficult to know what classics they have hiding away under that letter. I went through the listings and noted down movies I was interested in (old favorites, a few I haven't seen before) and I've attached them as a sampling of what's available - there's a lot more.

And please, this is just a list of movies I wanted to chase up at the time, not some personal statement of my 'Greatest films of All Time', so it's not a Pepsi challenge! Some classic films I just passed over because I already have them. Others, such as 'The Amazing Mr. Blunden' and 'The Computer Who Wore Tennis Shoes', were childhood favorites I hadn't seen in years. There's actually quite a few of those 60s and 70s Disney throwaway flicks on there, such as In Search of the Castaways, Charley and the Angel, etc. Plus some classics, like Mary Poppins.

So dive into the site and enjoy while you can! As far as I can tell it must be legit, otherwise how could they attract ads? A lot of the time though you can get through a whole movie without them.

Yes, it was unique in the way it was shot and the characters were well drawn, it was reflective of Leopold and Loeb.

  17. Funny enough, it was criticized by many at the time for the technique of long takes and seen as ‘gruesome’ according to one reviewer. Funny how time changes perception. I love Hitch’s cameo in the skyline (he’s visible as a neon advertisement). It’s an underrated film for sure. Stewart didn’t like the process because he felt the rehearsals were all about the camera moves (which they really were) a;though he admired Hitchcock for doing something so bold at the time. The only other film where he attempted this is the gothic melodrama “Under Capricorn”. He was way ahead of his time.

the homosexual subtext was, of course, missed by many at the time but Hitch intended it to be there of course from the very beginning.

Well good to read these comments. I thought I might be the only classic movie buff. Definitely will miss these. Some were not too great but most were such fun to see: Robin Hood Errol Flynn, Walk don't Run with Cary Grant and Samantha Eggar, Guns of Navarone, Cactus Flower w Ingrid Bergman, Singing in the Rain, Summer Stock, On a Clear Day, Anchors, Away, Court Jester, The Great Caruso, Easter Parade, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Rear Window, North by Northwest, Hello Dolly, Torn Curtain, Yikes! so many. The only bad one I found was a bad version of Woody Allen's Sleeper. The voice and film were way out of sync. Hopefully the channel will come back sometime. Will have to go online and buy up old movies as I find the.

Movieland.tv was back for several weeks but is gone again. This appears to be the norm for this app ever since I first discovered it about 5 years ago. I check for it daily, I'm sure it will reappear again before too long.

It came back again spelt in a different language (I can’t remember which one) and was good for about 2 weeks and vanished again!

Yeah, I found it tonight, it's a bit different than before, I think they're trying to be a bit sneaky this time. There's no search option, you have to hunt around for the movies. I hope it's around for awhile. Again!
    Watching One, Two, Three now.

I really wish they'd bring back a way to search.
The only way to find a specific film is to search through genres (comedy, drama, musical, etc ) and many are incorrect. For example, Superfly is listed as a musical and Rio Lobo is a romance.

There is a similar service on Roku called "Free Movies +. Movies that are otherwise offered only on pay services that I don't have.

Are there any other apps like Movieland.TV and Free Movies+ that I need to add?
