Hi - sorry to hijack an older thread - super hard to find any active boards/threads on freestyle music. Stumbled upon this thread. I'm looking for some help in trying to figure out these old freestyle songs. They are from old dance routines (not mine) that used instrumental parts of songs, so having no vocals is making this harder to figure out. They were from ~1996 or earlier. Clip 1: Vocaroo | Voice message Clip 2: Vocaroo | Voice message Was thinking these might be Alexia Phillips or Lil Suzy but haven't been able to figure it out. Shazam/SoundHound has not pulled up any results. Any help is appreciated!
This is pretty exciting!! Everybody's Jammin', by Debbie Deb "Pitch-perfect lost single from freestyle queen Debbie Deb! This recording from the mid-'80s was unearthed in the Pandisc archives and transferred from tape to digital by DJ Le Spam at City of Progress Studios. Original production by the founding father of Freestyle Pretty Tony Butler, mastered by Mike Fuller at Fullersound. Artwork & layout by Mariana Mendoza. "
Here is a solid list I found of "Freestyle Hits".. 100 Greatest Freestyle Dance Songs Some of them I wouldn't consider Freestyle, some of them I never heard of, but as for the "classics" that instantly come to mind, I see a good chunk of them on here. Growing up in New York / New Jersey, this was THE club music in the late 80's / early part of the 90's which is right around when I turned 21. I can remember seeing Coro, Lisette Melendez, TKA, Expose, Cover Girls, Stevie B, George LaMonde all in the NY/NJ clubs. Good times man, I miss those days... Here is one of my favorites:
This particular song was the first one that I ever had a customer tell me they didn't want to pay for it and were going to have someone, their cousin, download it off the internet, Summer of 1998.
This jam from 1982, for me, is one of the gems of the genre. C-Bank with Jenny Burton on vocals: Listen to that section in middle of that mix, and it's not hard to hear where New Order got inspiration for "Shellshock".
The Kpop group Wonder Girls put out a whole album in this style five years ago. And then they broke up.
good list! by the way that Noel track is co-produced by Paul Robb (Information Society). I think Paul was a fan of freestyle and it shows in some of their tracks I will add George Lamond (Look Into My Eyes), excellent track! And Collage (I'll Be Loving You) and Johnny O (Highways of Love) are also great
I think Taylor Dayne's Tell It to My Heart is also freestyle sound, extended mix is the best Tell It to My Heart
Debbie Gibson had Lewis A. Martineé produce this song, great tune, could have easily been a single Play the Field
This is listed as Freestyle on Discogs fwiw. By an Italian singer from 1987. Italian writer too. So I dunno, maybe it's Italo-something. But I really like it. This is one of the alternate versions on side B of the 12".
