Best stuff on Beatles albums, and on solo albums from Beatles members is George's stuff for sure, by a very wide margin.

The only George Beatles’ song I really don’t like is I Need You

22 songs over 7 years for GH, 160 (or so?) by L/M over the same period. Of course quantity isn't quality, but Harrison didn't really get rolling until Rubber Soul, right? I don't know, maybe I'd say that he wrote half a dozen great songs for the Beatles. That's OK. Not great.

They also should've put "Not Guilty" on The White Album.

The worst songs were written by Ringo. :D

I'd heard people try to claim that George wrote It Dont Come Easy, but this is the first I've heard anyone claim Ringo wrote Blue Jay Way and Piggies. Is there at least a guide vocal to support this theory?

What is "bad" about the "Taxman" lyric, in terms of style, content, or execution?

I basically like all of George's songs. I love that while John and Paul are trying to write love songs in a Motown style, George brings in the dour "Don't Bother Me." There's plenty of charm with "I Need You," "You Like Me Too Much," "You Know What To Do," etc. Sure, they're not the greatest songs ever but they'd be the best songs on any Searchers album not written by Jackie DeShannon. The later stuff is fine. "Piggies" is no worse than "Why Don't We Do It In The Road" or both Honey Pies. I'm not that much of a critic. I see no faults in any of his Beatles songs.

    Ha!
I can actually picture Ringo doing ' Piggies '...but he may have asked George to tone down the lyrics a tad.

I think they're his best ( and most caustic ) lyrics up until that time. Only ' Piggies ' surpasses them in sourness.

It is a string of one liners that don't even make anyone laugh and there is really no flow or connection to the ordering. Reads like a couple pre-teens passing notes in math class.

Saw a post or two up thread putting down ' Savoy Truffle '
    What's all that about?
A great song with a great groove.
Specially like the bit after this lyric : " ...the sweat is going to fill your head, when it becomes top much you'll shout aloud ..." and that guitar kicks in and those horns.

That “great groove” you like isn’t particularly my thing. It’s just OK, in my book, and I wouldn’t miss it had they cut some tracks from the album (certainly it’s not the first one I would cut!). His other three on the album are far better.

George and Paul were friends since they were kids. There was far more to it than what was contributed to his songs.

And there are far worse songs on The White Album than Piggies and Savoy Truffle.

I guess we all have different taste in lyrics.

I would argue that "Taxman" was one of the first, if not the first, good lyrics by the Fabs, in a catalog that until then consisted of mostly juvenile sentiments expressed in an amateurish manner.

I stopped listening to the Beatles nearly 30 years ago, and the lyrics were the main reason.

I mean, you say that like it can't be applied to the majority of Beatles lyrics in that early period.

George also suggested the waltz time intervals in "We Can Work It Out" (during the bridge - 'for fussing & fighting, my friend').
