I hear what you're saying, but to me, it sounds like a remaster. Not like a remaster done in the last 8 years or so, but like a remaster nonetheless. That's why I was surprised that you like it.

 

That "pumped up" sound you refer to is just more of the energy and power committed to the tape coming through IMO, rather than anything artificial introduced by the mastering. I wonder if this was a digital or analog recording?
