Right there is the chief frustration with what has been an excellent series.By limiting themselves to shows they also have video of they are only drawing from a shallow section of the Stones live history. I would guess maybe 95% of Stones fans would much prefer some shows from the Taylor years with no video than more releases from the Ronnie era even if they have the worlds best video. I will probably keep buying but my general emotion with each release is “ho hum” rather than any excitement or anticipation.
Most casual fans aren't going to talk about it until there is an official release announcement for confirmation. I might skip it myself. They are releasing too many recent shows with similar set lists in my opinion. This is in addition to talk of them reissuing material that was originally on VHS like Bridges To Babylon Tour '97-'98 or Stones At The Max for example. I don't even think I've bothered to watch the videos for the last few releases. I've just listened to the audio.
I agree but I believe the From The Vault deal is with Eagle Rock Video. I don't why they can't just release the audio as a stand alone release or as bonus material for a deluxe edition for one of the studio albums.
I wish they would release the December 15, 2012, show in Newark at the start of the 50th tour, it was PPV. A bit ragged but has its moments.
Count me in for the Paris set. Maybe they do the festival set from that year, too... the vids I have could use some restoring in the audio and visual departments... hope they keep all that backstage stuff from Paris, too. Didn’t Freddy shoot some of that..? Way off topic, but is that note from mick (in response to keef’s book) that surfaced again on fb this morning real?
Was it this article by the journalist Bill Wyman? Imagine if Mick Jagger responded to Keith Richards about his new autobiography.
Tons of footage for Paris 76' exists including live footage from the local tv special, live footage not used (across various nights also) & pre show arrivals/backstage etc. I have it on a factory made double disc.
I agree -- I regret acquiring the VL Uncut release. Still, none of us should be surprised that this is the recent direction -- last year's press statement made it clear a lot of contemporary era live material was going to be issued. I would like to see "Goats Head Soup" receive the Deluxe Edition treatment, augmented with a few studio outtakes/alternates and live material from Brussels '73.
Here's a comp I made of modern era live Stones. Clocks in around 2:46. Voodoo Lounge Uncut: Not Fade Away Tumbling Dice Rocks Off Live With Me Dead Flowers Sweet Virginia Heartbreaker It's All Over Now Stop Breaking Down Who Do You Love Before They Make Me Run Monkey Man Street Fighting Man Live Licks: Neighbours Can't You Hear Me Knocking The Nearness of You When the Whip comes Down You Don't Have to Mean It Worried About You Happy Gimme Shelter Havana Moon: All Down the Line You Got the Silver Midnight Rambler Sticky Fingers (Live at Fonda Theater): Sway Bitch Moonlight Mile Brown Sugar Rock Me Baby Jumping Jack Flash I Can't Turn You Loose
Does anyone have this Ward records Japanese release with the bonus CD’s? Are the CD’s the same show? And if so, is is a different mix than the BR or the same, being just the soundtrack on two CD’s? Thinking of picking this up. Already have the domestic BR, but no CD’s included. The Rolling Stones - Totally Stripped Paris
For my money, I think Live Licks #2 CD and SF@ the Fonda CD can just be played as is out of the boxes. Delightful releases, both. On VL, I'd get rid of Sheryl and DF and SV (DF and SV grate on me. YMMV.) and bring in "Sparks", "I Go Wild", and "The Worst" just to place it in time. (And, I like all 3 songs).
Didn't know about this one. My priority was a full audio before a full video so I bought the great sounding sets from Paris & Brixton on Rattlesnake.
Eventually they work out what the fans want. Sounds like a number of diehards have not bought the last 2-3 vault releases that had previously bought everything $tones.
They have to hold some stuff back for their next distribution deal. They know people want the other Paradiso Stripped show, El Mocambo, Knebworth, the Ya-YA's shows and Brussels Affair for example but they hold on to some stuff for later deals.
