as a continuation from the raging bull thread, i thought it would be interesting to talk about gangster films in their own thread as, due to me, the other thread wandered off topic

i think @SRC and @NettleBed have a good starting point

do you then think pathos is less important in a sociological film in this instance where it takes the form of journalism through reporting the lives of others/a system?

I watched the 60's Japan movie - it had some goofy parts but overall - I thought it was really cool:

It occurs to me that, although there's been movies made, there isn't a GREAT movie about Al Capone or John Gotti! Although not a great movie but it has a favorite, would be The Untouchables! DeNiro as Capone always puts a smile to my face!;)

This is what I imagine David Lynch would make if he were a Japanese movie director in the 1960s.

Adding to this list as this has got to be one of my favorite genres:

    Scarface
    Mean Streets
Once Upon A Time In America
    A Bronx Tale
    Gotti

Honorable Organized Crime TV Show mention(s) :
-Magic City- Mad Men meets the Sopranos!

Scarface with Pacino is one of the funniest movies of all time. Unintentional comedy but still hilarious.

And with that I'd like to add Johnny Dangerously.
