Susan and I took a leisurely walk through the new neighborhood today, and came across a garage sale. I spotted a bin of records and went straight to it.

The guy collected Rolling Stones for a while, so I picked up the following (in so-so condition) for 50 cents each:

    Aftermath (mono LL 3476)
Let It Bleed (with insert, stereo NPS-4)
Big Hits (High Tide...) (gatefold, booklet, reprocessed stereo NPS-1)
Through the Past Darkly (terrible condition, stereo NPS-3)
    12x5 (mono LL 3402)
    December's Children (reprocessed stereo PS451)
Got Live if you Want It (mono LL 3493)
Got Live if you Want It (stereo PS 493)
Out of our Heads (mono LL 3429)
Between the Buttons (stereo PS 499)

The London stuff is playable to horrendously scratched. I think the best of the bunch is Big Hits, Buttons, and Let It Bleed (which might be nice with a good cleaning). As noted, Through the Past is trashed. The covers for all these aren't too hot, except Big Hits and and Buttons are ok.

    Post-London:

Sticky Fingers (beat to hell, COC59100)
It's Only Rock and Roll (clean! COC 79101)
Emotional Rescue (two clean copies with poster COC 16015)
Time Waits For No One (COC 59107)
    Rewind (90176-1)
    Made in the Shade (clean)
Black and Blue (very good condition, cover is a mess)

Since I'm not a Stones collector, I have no idea if any of this stuff is good to have. I haven't listened to the reprocessed stuff, but I'm sure those are trash. If any were in great condition, would they be collectable? I realize the condition of these aren't too hot, but I'm just curious. If I wanted better copies, what should I look for?

The only non-Stones record I bought there was a mono copy of Ray Charles' "Modern Sounds" in VG/NM, still in wrapper but opened (ABC 410). It sounds great! I'm sure this isn't a first pressing, because there's a Gold Record Award logo in the middle of the cover. But still, it's so clean I could eat off it (not that I would ;) ).

Gee, Keith - looks like you'll have to get a "B" cartridge or stylus to play these on (just to make sure that your "A" cartridge does not get ruined!). Or even another TT for questionable records.

As for the value, I can't help you. Hope you enjoy them!

Keith, well done even if some of the LPs are in poor shape. One can't complain at $0.50 each. That's some great music for a minimal investment. Kudos.

Well, "Between the Buttons" sounds great. Worth the price alone!

I meant "worth the price I paid for all the records," which was $10. :)
