That’s a beauty. My father had the Fisher 500 C, and I’m almost positive that it was silver. Did not realize that Fisher made gold tone, or maybe my memory is playing its usual tricks on me. When was this model made? It looks like roughly the same era as the 500 C

You might be thinking of the 500S, which I believe came before the C.

Found this pix of a silver 500C. Which model is the gold that you posted -- the 500S?

I KNOW they call it "gold", but I say orange is the color

Love the comparison. It's a PRE amp, but still, I'm with you!

    It’s a X-101-B built I believe around 1961.

Fascinating. I did not realize that choice of silver or champgane/gold has been so long a part of the great Marazntz design ethic. While in this case I slightly prefer the silver for the stronger contrast with the side and top case, the champagne/gold with the brown wood case has a warm "English Boardroom" vibe that I really dig.

Leben...Love the mint green accent. FWIW, to these old ears, Lebens sound every bit as gorgeous and graceful as they look.

The first gold faceplate I'm aware of is the first-gen mono McIntosh stuff like the C8 preamplifier. I always thought Leben seems to be channeling that with a dash of early Marantz.

Yes, and I'm pretty sure they openly acknowledge that inspiration. I believe they are a very small company -- like literally one piece of equipment per day, hand-made. Here is the lovely Mac C8 you mentioned.

FM Acoustics? Their stuff seems to be gold on silvery-gold.
