Thanks so much! This is great. (Nice to see some of my data and comments that I have no recollection of posting )
I received this CD yesterday. The shrinkwrap is kind of torn up in a few places, so I'm wondering if I should open it. Besides, I'm really curious to know which pressing I got.
Nice work Diablo! Also thanks to @Black Elk for the effort that precipitated this thread. I've used the Part 2 extensively the past couple of months, that thread had a nice 11 year run, hope this one does as well. While normally I am in the "leave it sealed" camp, if the tears will make one question if is was truly sealed in the future perhaps then yes do open it. Please note the odds are in favor of it being a Rays and not the more desirable Purple Swirl. If you do open it, may the best luck be yours.
Thank you for including my comment. I suggested Version 1 as opposed to Version 2 because of the length differences in the songs' fade-outs. jjm905 , no "i" (hard to read in lowercase, I know.) JJM are my initials, though Jim is indeed my name. Cheers and many thanks for version 3 of this thread!
Huge thanks, DG, for organizing the many years of additional data into this most welcome Part 3, and for adding all the hyperlinks (especially to Discogs, so interested parties can see the actual discs under discussion) and extra info. Bravo! Two very minor things: 1. I've been credited with providing EAC data on the ATTWT Purple Swirl, but the numbers must have come from someone else, as I don't have any of the highly desirable discs (swirls, targets, rays, blue-faces) in my collection. Hopefully, the correct person will make themselves known so that the credit can be corrected in Part 4. 2. I'm pretty sure many of the notes accredited to me are just cases of me reporting someone else's findings. It makes it seem like I know more than I actually do! On a sad note, seeing many of the credited names again highlights the contributions of some great listeners who have been lost from the Forum.

Does anyone have the Spanish Abacab CD? I imagine that it's just a tweaked variant of the other Vertigos, but you never know...
Another chime for all the work you and other members, past and present, have put into this thread. It is indispensable. Thank you!!

I opened ATTWT today and it turned out to be a Purple Swirl. While the case has a few scuffs and small cracks, the disc looked unused. At least it wasn't a resealed used copy, but even if it was, $20 for this version is a steal. I'm glad I took a chance on it!
Congratulations on a good deal. Please post your impressions on the sonics. My recollection is that's it very bright.
Just got a Blue Swirl Abacab, so my early WG Genesis collection is growing! It'll definitely come in handy for Abacab's blind listening test! I just need to find a Blue Swirl Genesis and a Yellow Rays Duke and I'll be done! I think the Purple Swirl is a bit light on bass in some spots, but it's slightly more natural on the treble than the Nimbus to my ears. What made me change my preference to the West German ATTWT was the smoother cymbals and vocals in Undertow. The Nimbus and DE remaster both have too much brightness and sibilance there.
Thanks a lot for the third part. It cleared some confusion, I also realised that both Atlantic and Vertigo Abacab I have share the same mastering, I originally got one because I thought it was different... At least I have a different artwork colour variation Also Diablo, could you update your post about making EQ comparison charts in excel/google sheets? I wanted to compare two masterings, but the images aren't accessible anymore and I can't get past one step. Sorry for offtop.
