George Harrison All Things Must Pass 50th Anniversary Edition - contents, outtakes & sound quality

  1. His work on the 2 Lennon box sets is fantastic.
The issue here is how much they have decided to deSpectorise the album.A lot I hope but not everyone will share that wish.

That looks plausible. I would like to see two discs of outtakes/jams rather than two discs of demos, but it still looks like a very intriguing set. I may have missed it on the other thread, but is there any indication as to whether the original album will be remixed?

I wonder when (if) we get a 50th anniversary issue of Living In The Material World they'll include a replica table and chairs. Maybe some food, too?

Looks great! Won't buy the uber set, but the deluxe should do the trick. I also just bought a NM original UK press, so I'll have all the bases covered.

count me among those that wouldn't wish for that. as that's quintessentially what is wrong with altering original works. like 'em or not.

but that's how this all ends up. the erasure and/or manipulation of actual history. musical and otherwise.

Slightly disappointed with the sequencing, will stick with my format of the 2000 release adding I live for you to the actual album and putting the demos at the end after the Jam.

The original album is remixed both in 2.0 stereo and 5.1 surround sound.

They are really pushing the envelope with the pricing on these things now. No way this box is worth half of that. Ridiculous. But they will probably sell all of them.

Listen, I didn't *want* to go to peoples' houses and take their 1980s Beatles discs when the 2009s dropped, but they paid really well.

What is the hierarchy of deluxe editions?

    • Uber
    • Super Deluxe
    • Deluxe
    • Expanded
Like that? Is there anything above Uber?

I'm really glad that apparently all the songs will be available in records. It raises the cost to customers like me, but there's other options available for those who only want the remixed album or 5 LPs. It's the best of both worlds.

Question: Which disk are they keeping for the 3-CD set? Also, the first 2 CDs don't have any of the 2001 bonus tracks, do they?

Also, why not have the first 2 LPs on CD 1 and the Apple Jam on CD2? Doesn't make sense to me to split it down the middle, separating the actually-structured-song sides...

I presumed the 3rd disc was a 'best-of the outtakes/demos' kind of deal

    Eric Idle again.
This time confirming that there is no involvement from Genesis in the creation of the book.

No. Liv has made an incredible book, with dye cut real oak bookmark and cover from a tree planted by Sir Frank Crisp! 1880s. She really is an amazing artist.

Well, a lot happened over night.

    Initial thoughts:

Is it clear that the album is remixed and if so do we know the nature of it. More than a polished remix, but a radical remix to give a new insight?

The extra music. Welcome, but could we have had a few extra alternative takes. Looks like we don't get an alternative version of each original track. However, let's see how it pans out. Nice selection of demos though.

The main draw of the very large set to me would be the books. They look very nice. Am I to understand that the very large set includes two books and the SDE just one? Any insight on the differences. Are the larger set versions produced by Genesis and perhaps of a higher standard of production as opposed to just higher page number when compared to the standard SDE?

The gnomes. I suspect this may be where controversy may raise its head. I have a feeling these may not be quite as authentic in appearance as we would like. How could they? I guess this may be a suck it and see element. Maybe it is the relative size that makes them a little odd. Perhaps small metal figures may have been a little less, well I guess, large.

The crate actually looks quite nice and I guess the wooden bookmark, if it comes from a tree that had to be felled, is a nice touch.

It does look a lot better than the suitcase affair. Is it too much? Perhaps. Do I go for it? Argh! Decisions, decisions.

Shame that we don't have a look at the standard SDE at the moment. Perhaps an unboxing video will sort out indecision. It will be the books, I fear that are the key.

UK price anyone? I'm guessing £999.99, but perhaps we may get a slight break in the UK. Postage? A fair bit I would guess.

I'm in for the Super Deluxe 8LP (200$) AND the Deluxe 5CD+BD (150$). With that, I'll get all the relevant content of Uber set and for less 650$. Crazy.

Also hope the prices for UK are around 175£ and 125£, respectively. I'm more than ready to spend 300£ on an All Things Must Pass feast.

Not only that, but the only book in the SDE configuration is a smaller version of one of the book of the Uber (half the page numbers !).
I agree, I would want the Uber only for the books. I can't believe the 2nd book (the one about "The making of the album") is not available outside of the Uber !!
