Doesn't seem they had much of a fall out over Bangla Desh as George contributed guitar to several songs on Imagine a few months later, and they also worked on I'm the Greatest after that.

They did have a fall out over John feeling slighted by I Me Mine (the book).

Look at the Everly Brothers. Real brothers who were joined at the guitar and mic for many years but who needed a break of many years away from each other (they didn't speak for 10 years) to readjust and have a 'normal' brotherly friendship.

The Imagine album was recorded between February and July, 1971. The Bangla Desh concert was in early August. John and George had a huge row over that concert because George invited John, but wouldn't let Yoko join them. It's true that they worked on "I'm The Greatest" in 1973, but otherwise things were pretty rocky between John and George throughout the '70s, from the Bangla Desh thing to John's failure to show up to sign the Beatles' "divorce" papers, and ending with John's grudge over I Me Mine. There are, as always with the Beatles, other examples that show them getting along. None of this stuff is black and white.

I never understood John's being offended by George's book. It's not like it was a serious autobiography; it was just a bunch of vignettes strung together. It wasn't supposed to be about John or not.

This is one of the last public appearances of Paul and George together when they went to see Cirque de Solei in early 2001 months before George's death. This is a screencap from the Beatles Love video. Paul and George look like they had a great time together.

I knew his money problems weren't the same as the average Joe's

Thanks for the info. I need to get a copy of this.

Yeah, exactly! Was the text of the book even 100 pages? Could one even read two lines by George before getting to italicized comments from Derek Taylor? I think the picture section and lyric-sheet section composed more than two-thirds of the book!

I as well found it so strange that Lennon was slighted by all that... that "autobiography" really did come off as a joke.

    Of course, opinions may differ.

With all of George's money problems, no wonder he wanted to be a Pirate!! :uhhuh:

Not sure why several folks keep repeating this "no Beatles songs could be done" stuff, when even Jeff Lynne has stated otherwise:
Jeff Lynne: It was just like a time-warp kind of thing. We played some old rock-and-roll stuff, a couple of Chuck Berry's, even "I Saw Her Standing There".

I always thought the 1995-footage of the Threetles was interesting material to study for communication-specialists and family-psychiatrists.
In most of the footage Paul is extremely active, totally comparable to the behaviour during the Let-It-Be-movie. George's attitude veers from tired and irritated to mildly amused. He's very funny when there's no instruments around (the table-conversation about the supposed ''jam-session'' the Beatles had with Elvis in '65 is very funny), the listening-sessions with George M are nice too. But in the studio with the instruments I get the impression that Paul would love to burst into a few Beatles classics and George would love to get out of there.

Yeah, I never got that either. I never seemed to bother Paul, and he was mentioned fewer times in the book than John was! Unfortunately, though, John did a bunch of interviews right around the time he was feeling hurt by it, and he never had the chance to do another one where he might have changed his mind. John himself admitted that his moods changed like the wind, and by mid-1981 he might have been like, "Ah, it was no big deal." But now his first statements about it are his FINAL statements about it...

Maybe "I Saw Her Standing There" was considered "neutral" enough to busk through, but there's no doubt that they favored old rock covers to their own Fab catalog. I'm pretty sure the story I relayed about George nixing the "grand finale" performance of "The Long And Winding Road" (with George and Ringo gathered around Paul at the piano) has been confirmed by at least one of the principals involved.

I counted 11 mentions of John in his book I Me Mine. John was not slighted and his complaint about that was petty.

    Cool clip.

It's interesting to watch three musicians "jam" who haven't played together in probably what ? 25 years ? They still know each other, musically. Pretty fun and I'm not even a casual Beatles fan.

It never ceases to amaze me how any Beatles thread here, no matter how mundane or ridiculous, can generate 30+ pages. Wow!

They performed electric versions of Sgt. Pepper, I Saw Her Standing There, Love Me Do and Besame Mucho among others. Jeff Lynne filled in for John's parts on backing vocals. These were rough jams, not rehearsed performances. I read this in an article by the producer back in 1995, but haven't seen anything on it since, other than your link, which refers more to a "symbolic" version of Let it Be, whatever that means (movie or the song?)

I didn't get this far when I posted, but this is consistent with some of the Smeaton interview I originally read.

Ringo said and can be briefly seen playing Love Me Do. During the Anthology. I suppose *that was considered neutral as well.

I think a lot of this is a bit much really. The "oldies jam" lasted the better part of an entire afternoon. Of course, tthe bonus Anthology footage lasted just a few minutes which perpetuated the image that it was just a quickie, off-the-cuff busk session. How are we to know whether George enjoyed playing with his band mates or not from this brief footage? Check out the extant footage of George playing on the Delaney and Bonnie tour (an experience he said was wonderful and liberating) and see how rarely he smiles or moves about. He just wasn't that sort of performer.

The "short" comment regarding Blue Moon Of Kentucky was in reference to NOT playing the traditional slow, straight- country version before the uptempo, spirited take. It has nothing to do with being annoyed with Paul or wanting to end the session more quickly. Some folks here just don't "get" George Harrison. He never was the smiling, thumbs up kinda guy that Paul was and is. He was always more serious when it came to music, but had a wicked sense of humor when not performing. And seriously... does anyone blame George for not wanting to do a Threetles, grand final of The Long And Winding Road or the other rumored track, Let It Be??? Think about it! Ron

I apologize if it's been mentioned already but I am at work so theoretically I am "working" :D I'll read all the posts later.

Didn't George and Paul have a little spat during the Threetles get together?
If memory serves me, Paul wanted to do "Let It Be " or some other song and George objected ? They had to have a little cooling off time out before they continued?

P.S. I see Ron just mentioned "Let it Be "while I was posting ! I've gotta learn to type faster. :p

What do you mean read an article with the producer. Who? Bob Smeaton or Kevin Godley who do you mean. You have quotes from an eye witness saying they did an electric. Sgt Pepper and many otbers?

Seems like the stuff I Anthology is less interesting than what they left out.

I generally agree, but if you watch George in the Carl Perkins special, he is full of joy and pleasure playing with friends and heroes. And his playing is among his best over-all performances. Same goes with watching him with the Wilburies. Not to over-analyze any of this, but this is simply the tension of playing with your over-bearing older brother. You can get on quite nicely socially, but when you sit down formally and try to make music- old tensions automatically surface.

Well, you won't see anything about that subject there, but it did take place.

Read the book "You Never Give Me Your Money". There is a fairly good account of what took place there.

It was Smeaton, back in 95. But I think it was as loose as the acoustic sessions.

Remember at the time, only a brief clip of Kentucky leaked out on ABC, and then never appeared on the specials. Point is NONE of this made the initial cut.
