I kinda thought that was the whole point of "Unbreakable":
    (just my theory, of course)
I thought M. Night was making a case that ALL history had become 'embellished' by those who told those 'stories of old', and that, perhaps, the 'real story' was just as mundane as all our lives are...
    and, so...
he applied this 'idea' to the 'super-hero' genre; a 'reverse-engineering', if you will...
Making the story as boring as possible was kind of the point.... now, whether that makes for a good MOVIE...well..that's an individual matter.....

The only problem is it was almost too small. One reviewer said that the feats which are broadcast might easily have been confused for a “Philadelphia strongest man” competition on reality TV. Hahah. I think MNS should have stretched the budget and gone for that rooftop finale.

As far as the final twist it just underwhelmed me. Too X-Men

For the very first time in my life I was getting so frustrated by stuff I actually blurted out loud in the theater ( much to my surprise and embarrassment) “Follow him!” When somebody bumped into somebody instead of wandering off like Sherlock Holmes looking for red bricks.

But Glass may not have cared to leave until he could make his actions suit his desire to pursue a comic book-related agenda.

He stirs from his mental slumber because he wants to make the Willis and McAvoy characters battle. Before they ended up at the facility, he may've lacked any real purpose or need to escape...

I think it's a hole in the script because M. Night Shyamalan was unable to get the sequel made for more than a decade.

How much of a mastermind would you be if you were heavily sedated for 19-years?

I saw this in the theater and thought it was awful.

    That is all.

I really believe the trick to enjoying this movie is not to approach it like a movie representing our life but more like an animation of a comic book. In comic books the Joker comes back to do crime again and again, Batman recovers from ridiculous pummellings and Iron Man can operate and fly in a metal suit he built in a desert within minutes. We accept this because it's comic books. Mr. Glass sits for 19 years? Ok. It works for the comic book perspective this movie posits right from the start of Unbreakable. MNS seems more interested in mood and ideas and the end point of the movie over closing every hole. For me it was entertaining.

I wonder if the pace of the movie worked against it by giving viewers time to ponder things instead of being distracted by whiz bang explosions, gratuitous adolescent tittilation and requisite tongue in cheek jokes.

We saw this Sunday night and while it wasn’t anywhere near the level of hypnotic storytelling that Unbreakable was, I found it entertaining. Do I have some reservations? Absolutely. The third act is silly in relation to the grandeur of what it’s aiming for. Bruce Willis doesn’t seem as engaged as before, and there are some clear plot problems. I’m always calling for movies to be smarter (and M. Night movies certainly) and it’s not the kind of movie I’m going to try to talk anyone into seeing, but I liked this on its level.

I think the pace of the movie worked against it by giving viewers time to ponder that they actually paid for tickets to see it.

    Of course, it might be...

That the pace of the movie worked against it by giving viewers time to ponder that they actually are actually still sitting here watching it.

You're probably right, but I think my explanation works.

Not saying it's correct or that it's what MNS intended, but it makes sense - to me, at least! :D

Gotta admit I don't really understand the hate.

The 3rd act does sputter, but it starts very well and remains good for those 1st 2 acts.

And the 3rd act isn't bad - it's just not as strong.

"Glass" isn't as good as "Unbreakable", but it's precisely 23.64 times better than "Split" - that was an awful film!

I agree up to the point about Split, which I liked for the most part. I thought it was about as entertaining as this film. McAvoy obviously had a blast.
