I think their pinnacle is Point of Entry. It's the perfect blend of the prog-tinged metal in Sad Wings and the production of their later stuff. Desert Plains and Solar Angels are Priest at their best.

Same here, back then I would have been like "Voivod who/what?" Now, I'm all "Voivod :agree:, RUSH as RUSH should have sounded in the '80's!"

I love Turning Circles too - moody masterpiece.

KK's solo in "Don't Go" is also a stunner - I actually like the song quite a bit too.

Heading Out To The Highway is a classic for life.

side 2 of PoE (after Solar Angels) doesn't move me much though.

Yeah - PoE side 2 - "You Say Yes" - no thanx; "On The Run" sounds like KISS.

I might listen to On The Run once per year - interesting melding of Kiss/ZZ Top feels - the riff is pretty good.

Troubleshooter starts off good but drags on too long - seems like a re-write of Don't Have To Be Old To Be Wise but far less charm.

the other 2 tracks? mostly abysmal. I'd say You Say Yes is slightly less abysmal than "You Take It All The Way", if only for an interesting left-field breakdown part in YSY.

Me three. I hated early Voivod but came to love the band. I still don’t like the first two records though. I think they’re very poor in terms of musicianship and production.

Voivod from Killing Technology to Angel Rat is where it's at for me - GREAT music, futuristic/Sci-fi metal; awesome.

I agree. That’s their best era as far as I’m concerned. I like their later stuff, too, though.

Phobos (the title track) struck me as an amazing tune - I haven't given the entire album a listen though.

I remember not liking Negatron very much at the time.

The Eric Forrest years were not the best, but far from terrible.

If you like the Eric Forest albums check out the first 2 E-Force albums, the group he formed after Voivod.

how do the 2000's Jason Newsted era albums stack up against the E-Force years?

I really liked their most recent albums. Sounded like a mix of Dimension Hatross and Nothingface.

I saw Judas Priest live this summer. It was a great show, with Halford in fine voice. Things kicked up a notch emotionally when they showed footage of Glenn Tipton on the screens during the Painkiller solos. That was the end of the set. Then for the encores out came Tipton himself. Awesome. I was ecstatic to see him playing with the band once again (which I didn't think I'd get to do) and it felt great to see his courage. You can tell he's in trouble, but he showed signs of enjoying his time on the stage and his playing was spot on for those encore tracks. Those last 10 or 15 minutes of the show were nothing short of celebratory, with Halford visiting his side of the stage a lot and being affectionate and encouraging to him. Just fantastic.

Much love and respect for Tipton, and I wish him strength for his personal battle. He's certainly got the courage.

    Long live the Priest. \m/
