I do think this is a strange album to receive such an elaborate package. Go West is a decent, moderately successful album with a couple of good singles in tow. Can it really carry off a 5 disc deluxe edition? It sounds like they’ve buggered up the mastering too, which makes it even less tempting… Still, there’s always the original CD which I think sounds really good!
The interesting thing about the second album is I think there might be a lot of unreleased mixes, witness the mix of Masque Of Love on one of the Indian Summer singles, though it barely sounds different. I bet they panicked in singles choices when True Colours bombed and so I would wager much unreleased mixes.
I think my copy, bought in the mid 90s and an "EMI Gold" edition, is like that too. Actually I may be confusing it with my Bangs & Crashes. EG.
A full silver Eric? That'd be a PDO manufacture, no bronzing/rot on yours's I hope if it's a UK. I've got a WG PDO Bangs that I really enjoy. Nice warm EQ on it!
This has a screen finish. If that’s what you call it. Like Parade and Colour By Numbers. The EMI Gold edition is just a silver disc and obviously doesn’t sound as good.
So is my name and that of a friend & we did bugger all.....Tracklisting by Chrysalis with a little input from my friend, I gave some advice on audio quality for a track about two years ago, remastering by Gary S and everything was approved by the band.
At least there was a time when he expressed an interest in audio quality, even if he delegated the actual review to somebody else here: Expert Witness: Which is the best sounding Robert Palmer remaster? – SuperDeluxeEdition
Yes and that's a decent, informed comparison written in a relatively unpatronising manner. What I meant was that - regardless of 'interest' - my perception of having read his commentary for so long is that his experience is more of a case of being the casual listener who was more excited by the music being 'louder' than transparent and dynamic.
Yes, the number of times I see comments like "great, now I don't have to turn the volume up on my system/ipod/phone/music player". EG.
I've only noticed one commenter who seems to post such comments to wind people up. When I rebutted his comment, Paul didn't publish it. I had to write another one but that one at least got through. Still got me thinking. In the review of the new Duran Duran album he vaguely hinted at the fact that he could hear the album's heavy compression, but only confirmed it in the comments. Clearly not how an independent reviewer treats things, but enough of me about this,
Sadly as I said . Paul, likes to pad product.. he could just made a small boxset to indian summer. Everything would fit in small box.. I can't fit that box in my shelf.. Yes, it's loud.. Peter, should been more involved making this reissue. With SDE ,it seems everything is too much ..
As @Bobby Morrow says, a lot of the (slightly) younger crowd on Popjustice genuinely think like that. EG.
Makes me sad. I wanted to say "for my generation" but then I noticed that you probably didn't mean as young as me
Tell me about it: hear/see that sooo many times from fans, labels, reviewers & artists. Equally, I can understand how some mastering engineers who push the envelope to use the capabilities of whichever medium to a reasonable limit must be very frustrated by those of us that say 'peg it back a bit, mate'. The art is compromise, as ever, but unfortunately that isn't always possible. I've recently parted company with an artist on my label because we couldn't agree on a compromise solution.
As well as this being a brickwalled mess they have somehow managed not to include the single version of Goodbye Girl on disc 2.
Reading elsewhere people who actually bought the box set are saying it's the album version repeated. I managed to download it somewhere and the version on that is weird edit of the album version that just fades away at the end.
