Well I've ended up with 2 copies of this (cheers amazon for messing me around!). Anyone interested, let me know and I'll set up a proper listing in the Classfied section here. £45 all in for the UK, but I'll send it anywhere (so the total might vary according to destination). EG.
Well, I'm glad I have a copy, in that sense. But I now have to figure out what to do with the extra unwanted copy that I have also paid for. EG.
Of course I can, but I thought someone might want it, and at a lower price than they're now selling it for EG.
i will be getting this eventually. i'm a huge fan of the band from the first album, and 'we close our eyes', so i've been looking forward to it. its disappointing that the sound quality isn't so good. but i do want it for the live stuff, dvd, and demos, and mixes. there are tons of mixes, of other stuff thats hard to come by, so i'm glad they are here also. the pricepoint is very fair too. i have heard some of the tracks, and they did sound loud. ---- i have the original cd, bangs and crashes japanese cd. i will also be getting the special chrysalis UK blue longbox releases: Go West – Go West Label: Chrysalis – CD25CR10 Series: Chrysalis 25 – 10 Format: CD, Album, Reissue Box Set, Special Edition Country: UK & Europe Released: 1994 Genre: Electronic Style: Synth-pop Tracklist 1 We Close Our Eyes 2 Don't Look Down 3 Call Me 4 Eye To Eye 5 Haunted 6 S.O.S. 7 Goodbye Girl 8 Innocence 9 Missing Persons The seller listed the longbox, but couldn't find it. I have the ultravox one like this, and that had good sound quality, so this version might also. later -1
I just grabbed the UK pressing of Bangs & Crashes on vinyl for $6 a few months back.... It's a nice listen! Shame they screwed up the mastering for this set, but I suppose I can always track down the original CD for a few bucks. Anyone know why they used the "Total Overhang CLUB Mix" of "We Close Our Eyes" on that album, rather than just the "Total Overhang Mix" that includes that great guitar solo? Only thing that bummed me out about B&C, thought I was getting the 6:41 version rather than the 5:55 one.
I am wondering if the US Dance mix that closes out disc 2 is also incorrect - because it sounds just like the normal Indiscriminate 12" mix to me. The timings are fractionally different though. Is that the only difference? A slightly earlier fade?!
I hear you. This box set was by all accounts supposed to come out in 2020 (for the 35th anniversary) so it's literally been ready to go for two years. You'd think he'd have had a chance to listen to it during flippin' lockdown!!
Or at least lied and said he’d listened to it… I mean, it was his biggest ever album. You’d think he’d summon up the interest to listen to the new remaster. Go West isn’t even a long album.
No it is definitely different. It sounds like the underlying 'mix' is the same but the edit is definitely different. Whether it is the mix it says it is is another matter but the two tracks are definitely different edits. No it hasn't been ready for two years. Work continued through 2021 with the subsequent delivery impacted by the supply chain issues we are now all familiar with. But, agree that it isn't helpful to anyone if the artist doesn't listen to it and then, worse, tells everyone that.
Annoying, isn't it? The guitar-solo Overhang Mix is one of my favourite 12" mixes by anybody ever, so for it not to appear on B+C at the time was a major bummer. At least they've included it in the Deluxe - such a shame that the mastering is H-O-T.
Just to let you know that mix is on this compilation Various - Original Hits - 80s 12" and sounds a million times better than on that box set.
I have been a regular poster on SDE for years now but my last 2 or 3 comments on this subject have been totally ignored and not published. In no way was i abusive or anything like that in what i wrote and just pointed out about the extremely loud mastering on this and the mistake with Goodbye Girl. Seems he has taken this a bit too much to heart.
Hello, I'm new to here but a long-time Go West fan from Japan The Run Away Train Tour Laserdisc definitely exists. It was released here in Japan on July 1988 and Catalogue # is "L050-1126" by TOEMI LaserVision(Toshiba-EMI). I guess it's hard to find even in Japan..as I've ever seen it only once or twice since long years.
I cannot even listen to it. The mastering/remix is that bad. Three songs in, and I had to shut it off. EG.
No, he just doesn't let many overt criticisms through: he relies on the record company sponsorship too much for his forum to really be reflective of the opinions people are trying to post.
He hasn’t posted mine on similar either but then several others have pointed out the same, so it may not be personal.
