I want to see one of them clearly win. Last time King Kong did, so maybe this time Godzilla should. But I feel it will be some sort of tie.
Funny you should mention that... Just saw a YouTube clip where some guy was comparing the battle skills of both. He figured Godzilla had the edge.
I read that the director has promised a winner. I think there was a timing agreement. Toho agreed to wait until after GvK or something like that. Shin should have a sequel. That was totally set up. I don't keep watch on these things. I'm old enough now that they come along on their own pretty quickly enough. Then I buy it. Then I watch it. Then I watch Godzilla, Son of Godzilla, etc.... I'm pretty satisfied that the Monarch series is turning into a well-articulated set of stories. It's like the early Heisei era for an American audience and all the goofy contradictions that come with the concept. I'm sure there's an android on the way....
How is this myth still hanging around nearly 60 years after the film was released? It was debunked ages ago.
There wasn't really a "winner" in that fight... it's generally considered to have ended in a draw. You see Kong swimming away and you hear Godzilla's roar.
And me too. This just looks like fun! And I remember the first one. Here's a piece from IMDB on the alternate endings too. King Kong vs. Godzilla (1963) - Alternate Versions - IMDb
I probably qualify as an "old timer" since I go back to the days of Boston's TV 56 and the Saturday afternoon Creature Double Feature, but I have a 10-year old and he's ALL IN on Godzilla vs. Kong. He's got a buddy in our pod who also a Godzilla fan, so I'm planning a big night of kid snacks around the HBOMax premiere (which I will proudly host, so Mama can retreat to our bedroom for some HGTV).
Ah well,I’ve never seen the Japanese version. Good to know. With all of the detailed miniature work for the film I am surprised at how bad the suit is for Kong. for the record when I worked for Dino Delaurentiis, I was among a ha full,of folks asked to submit a story for a sequel to their Kong film. Mine was dumb but also a satire (some of the ideas made it into the final script but not my conclusion) and it had a similar tone to,the Guillermo film. Having said that, I’m guilty of writing a stupid film as well so, when I say that the original GvK film is pure cheesy dumbness, it is with affection.
Did any of your ideas make it into "King Kong Lives"? It is a pretty awful movie, but I enjoy it anyway.
