    Indeed it isn't 100% complete.

The price has dropped a little on Amazon Germany so I'm in. Always been curious about this band and there's nothing I enjoy more than jumping in the deep end and immersing myself in a band largely unknown to me.

Coming from the more hard rock end of the spectrum what albums would you recommend the most out of these. I've heard Moontan and Switch and quite enjoy them. Just wondering how to attack this box once I get it?!?!

The 2 right before Moontan are in the same vein:
    Seven Tears (1971)
    Together (1972)

    Then I'd skip forward to:
Grab It For A Second (1978)
    Paradise In Distress (1999)

    and then explore the rest.

Rightly so! I adore "Together", and don't forget their 1977 Live album which is T-E-R-R-I-F-I-C!!!:edthumbs:

All the live albums (and DVDs!!!) are terrific, but they are not in the boxset and the question concerned that.

    Sorry, I missed it's not in...:hide:
Nonetheless, I'd recommend "Live" to anyone interested in Golden Earring coming from the hard rock end of the spectrum!;)

Hey MJConroy, in terms of DVD (or better Blu Ray), what could you recommend?
I already own "Live From The Twilight Zone" and a concert from the Rockpalast series shot around the same time.
    Thanks in advance!:)

Agreed, they had Eelco Gelling then on guitar!

  12. I'd also include the self titled (1970) cd in this list. The run from this album through Moontan (roughly 1970-1974) is stellar.

    Besides those I have:
    • The Naked Truth
    • Naked II
    • Naked III
    • Last Blast of the Century
    • Live in Ahoy 2006
    • Five Zero at the Ziggo Dome
Of the "unplugged" ones, I'd recommend the 1st - Naked Truth as it has the songs familiar to most (radar Love, Twilight Zone, etc.) and it's quite amazing to see how they pull them off.
Here is Mad Love's Comin': Golden Earring - Mad love is coming

Of the electric shows, I'd go with Last Blast of the Century; here is a clip from it: https://youtu.be/I3JdBhjZ4Vg

(I also have these non-concert dvds:
    • The devil made me do it (35 years - 27 clips) (music videos)
    • Don't stop the show (documentary)
    • Millbrook, USA
    • Making of T&A)

Thanks again, MJConroy, these both look great!
I'm definitively going with "Naked Truth", its intimacy is something the Rolling Stones could never hope for on their "Shine A Light":D.
The "Last Blast Of The Century" will be 2nd choice, as I must obey my wallet:cool:

According to a reviewer on the german amazon the box set CDs sound very harsh and are even louder mastered than the first Red Bullet remasters. :realmad:

If that's true, I'm suddenly very glad I didn't fast track this one to the front of the line...

Got my Box yesterday, only listened to a few discs so far. Loud compared to the Red Bullet 2001's, except for Switch which seemed to be about the same. Only listened to a few so far.
Packaging is about the same as the Blue Oyster Cult Box except all single sleeves no gatefolds or inserts so very limited artwork. Little bit sturdier outer box though, however mine came with a nice big dent on one corner which also crushed the
book and a couple of the disk sleeves.
Had to get it though as I only have a handful of the Red Bullets.
The music is Great however of course I listened to 3 I've never heard before and was impressed with all of them.

Thanks for posting your first impressions.
I'm glad that I already have most of the albums. The 2001 Red Bullets were already a bit too compressed for my taste, if they are MORE compressed now I have no interest anymore in this box set.

  23. Since I only owned three Golden Earring albums (Moontan, Switch & Cut) I decided to pick this up. Man am I loving it!! What a deep, varied and excellent catalog of music! 29 discs for 120 bucks is a steal IMO and it's mostly uniformly excellent!! Listening to "To The Hilt" as I type this. I'm on my 2nd trip through the set chronologically.

How is it from a sonic perspective? Granted, I've only got that German Amazon review to go off of, but it sounded like they'd red-lined some of these masters.

EDIT: The German Amazon review and Sting rae above...

To me some of them are quite loud and some not so bad. Not an audiophile experience but more like a mixed bag.
I don't get super fatigued out listening though. And the music is fantastic. Doesn't seem to be any real stinkers in their whole catalog.
Half of these I've never heard before. Right now I'm digging the Self Titled "Wall of Dolls" Album.
