My copy of the Let It Bleed set was in an oversized box, but with no packing material at all, not the pillows or a shred of paper or anything. The result was serious corner damage on all four corners with two of them split all the way through.

So I’m not sure about your theory... but who can tell? The one thing I’ve learned about Amazon from this thread is that they are consistently inconsistent when it comes to packing.

How much difference does three pillows add? I received one with corner dings and sent it back. The second came in packed the same way but arrived in great shape. My "theory" is sound, I order more than most from them.

i think the best way to get them to pay attention is to make sure you return/replace and choose the option that best reflects damage due to inadequate packaging, and describe what the problem is in the notes. i highly doubt the customer service reps actually escalate anything to better the process overall, but i've no doubt they have analytics for returns and their reasons.

anyway, here's a couple cheap finds for today:

CCR - Willy & The Poor Boys (vinyl): $11.50

    AC/DC - Back In Black (vinyl): $13.45

    Deltron 3030 (vinyl): $14.25

I hate liking your post because I feel bad that you got a damaged box.

My Let It Bleed arrived yesterday. Slightly oversized box with some half-a$$ed air pillows. Although not nearly enough care in packaging to ensure safe delivery, the box set came through unscathed.

I can’t answer what difference it makes because they didn’t use any.

BTW, as you are aware, the Let It Bleed box is massive. My little Rolling Stones special edition collection is littered with inconsistent form factors. From the squatty Sticky Fingers box to a nearly-but-not-quite full sized Some Girls box to a vinyl-like package that is Satanic Majesties to the little 7" Japanese Beggars Banquet vinyl/SACD set, these things are all over the map when it comes to size and presentation.

It kind of drives me nuts lol. And the Goats Head Soup looks like the CD version is the size of the McCartney Super Deluxes. The vinyl version is at least a match to this one—I might have to buy that version just to keep my OCD in check!

yes i was surprised by how massive the let it bleed box is. satanic majesties felt like its just a regular old vinyl release type packaging.

Just got the replacement. Slightly smaller box than the first order, and yes, the air pillows.

Box is perfect, not a single ding, dent, or scuff. So I guess the air pillows make a massive difference based on this exercise.

My experience with amazon vinyl as of late....Neil Young Hoemgrown vinyl shipped in the same box with a 25 pound bag of dog food.

Anyway to tie into the deals thread....Janis Joplin Greatest Hits vinyl for $11.62.....shipped loose in a box too small for the vinyl...whoever packed it actually had to bend the thing to get it to fit. The replacement copy came loose in a larger box but wasn’t damaged.

Never had a problem with their protection of vinyl shipments until the last few weeks.

It’s obvious that most of the Amazon packers are probably MP3 fans... :(
