For Blue Note, having some not in print and desirable titles in the series, like the chet baker, encourages FOMO and inspires consumers to buy the newer titles in the series or miss out. I personally doubt its about jackets or pressing availability.

its the jackets, every label that uses Stougton is complaining about jacket times, nit just blue note

the chet baker which has been out of print since it sold out in 2000 is about the jackets?

maybe @TerpStation is confusing it with the AP Chet release that came out in 02?

Do you mean Feb 2020? I also bought it when it came out and there is no way that was 22 years ago!

EDIT: ah, I see that it was a typo! Ok, carry on…

In any event...its just one man's opinion based on perceived motivations....i believe they have an incentive to keep some not in print to inspire people to buy.....

It certainly wouldn’t be the craziest thing I’ve ever heard. I know Chet sold out quickly but I thought there was already one repress (that also quickly sold out)? I might be remembering that wrong…

EDIT: Sorry for derailing the thread! Back to deals!

History tells us that a bit of patience on any new Neil Young release pays big dividends. They're usually half the price within months of release.

It doesn't seem to make good business sense to not repress a sure seller with built up demand.

I agree, and I think under “normal” circumstances, they would just press both new stuff and old stuff. But if they have to choose one or the other (which is what it looks like), it looks like they made their choice.

Sweet— I didn’t expect to see these become available again! Repress or old stock, I wonder. Would like to snag ‘Round Midnight’ at this price, also. Thanks for the links @throwupmyhands
