and this 2LP version as well for $26.12. I decided not to pull the trigger on either set after playing the CD from 1997 with 24 page booklet. It sounds pretty good, not brickwalled at all, but does have an overall DR of 10. Anyways, if you collect PM I would go for the 3LP set which includes a lyric booklet and some other single page insert. https://www.amazon.com/Flaming-Pie-LP-Paul-McCartney/dp/B0892B9R89
Just received another copy of the "Flaming Pie" 3-LP set to replace the one that arrived damaged last week in an unpadded plastic bag. This one wasn't sent in any sort of packaging at all. They just slapped a shipping label on the shrinkwrap! So, of course, it is damaged. I called Amazon and they refused to send me a replacement, even though I kept trying to explain to the very polite and professional (but seriously ESL-challenged) customer service rep that the items themselves are not defective and all they need to do is put it in a box of some kind. You know, common sense stuff that the world's largest mail-order retailer should have figured out on Day One. Nope, she said, they can't send me another replacement "because as a favor to you, our most valued customer, we wish for you to be happy with us." Ehhhh. On the plus side, I don't have to send back either damaged copy, and I am getting a full refund, plus a $25 gift card. I'll just have to live without the slipcase. (And, yes, this is a true First World problem that pales in comparison to whatever issues my low-paid, night-time-working, customer service rep from India must face.) I gotta say, though, Amazon must lose a FORTUNE by mailing out vinyl records in bags or with no packaging of any kind. They ALMOST ALWAYS show up damaged that way, generating refunds, ticking off customers and adding to personnel costs for the company.
Next time just mark that the item as a gift. Then you'll get the record in a box. It'll be bouncing around inside the box, no record mailer, but at least a box.
You can also get the Flaming Pie set from two secondary outlets that have it for a cheaper price and probably use boxes. With shipping added you'll save a whopping fifty cents.
It is so sad that we have to consider at all whether an online retailer shipping vinyl records uses BOXES or not. Sheesh. What is this world coming to?!
I suspect that most people who receive a damaged item probably don't actually complain. So they probably save a fortune on packaging on the whole, while just dealing with those who do complain in a random fashion depending on which customer service agent picks up the case.
I think they have a big dartboard in the room where the reps take phone calls from customers, and for each call where the customer complains about damage, the rep throws a dart at the board to determine the resolution.
not sure if i prefer the "record in a polybag" method to the "record in a huge box with a couple air pillows floating around" method. it's a real toss-up! i just don't think folks at the distribution centers get paid enough to really care
I am just curious, what was the reasoning when they refuse to send a replacement? When I get I record that is damaged during shipping I do not deal with customer support, I just go online and I order a replacement through the "Return or Replace Items" button next to my order.
They say they'll only send certain items twice, and then, if both of your orders arrive defective or damaged, they won't make a third attempt and will only issue a refund. The policy makes perfect sense when items they have are suspected of being damaged or defective while sitting in a warehouse. (If they have a pallet of damaged albums, they don't want to keep sending them to people.) But of course it makes no sense when the damage only occurs because the warehouse has shipped the items without adequate protection. Their return policy doesn't seem to account for that very common scenario, which is insane. (I used the "Return or Replace Items" button after my first set arrived damaged, but I called when the second set arrived damaged.)
The benefit of calling vs. online seems to be that they will let you keep the initial damaged object if you talk to a person.
Or chat. I got to keep my George Jones bear family box set and got a full refund by opening a chat. It just had a few dings, and I was only looking for a partial credit.

I do that now on EVERYTHING I order from Amazon after getting sick and tired of them not putting stuff in boxes or envelopes but it ONLY seems to work when I order multiple things which coincidentally ship together. For just one thing if ordered as a gift they still just slap an address label on it and ship it like that (which I hate).
You know what I am sick and tired of? Reading people’s endless complaints about Amazon packaging while they continue shopping on……Amazon. you guys should really listen to yourselves…
The increase in inadequate packaging to the level of sending records in bags seems to be a recent thing, as well as the harder line against returns, so it stands to reason the people are going to note their experiences, as well as try to push back against what seem to be recent policy changes versus completely writing off the institution immediately.
Ya but this isnt new and its never going to stop. Amazon doesnt care and they never will. And now a deal! Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray] $21.56 https://a.co/d/7Iw3jJv
Those defects go into your account. Get enough, and they close your account. It feels nice when they do that, but don't go hunting for those.
my wife and i have probably returned, exchanged, or gotten full credit for hundreds of items. i'm not worried.
