As a spokesperson for the Dylan camp noted, "a few scuffs increase the overall bootlegedness, which is the whole focus of this series."
Maybe this is the wrong thread but I wonder how a remix of the album qualifies as bootleg series? I mean the other material on the set, yes I get it, but the remix doesn't make sense. Especially as it's the main focus of the set.
I'm sure it's selling poorly and here's why. The diehards bought the vinyl set this time, because it had all the material available on it. Prior vinyl bootleg series sets only contained curated tracks. The casual fan bought the 2 cd or 4 lp version. The 5 cd set had little appeal to most. But.... Now that I have it I will probably eventually sell the vinyl set because it was an impulse buy. Looks like the vinyl set is still in print too. Might hold off until it's OOP so I can at least recoup my costs on it.
$27 Fragments arrived today in dreaded bag o’ death. Very minor ding or two on back lower edge where no one will see, looks great otherwise. It stays. Life is good.
I believe it to be similar, with the exception of the freaks and geeks, this set specifically and the series in general has long run it’s course of spitting out the hoards of dreamy vaulted material that exalted the ‘Dylan who made Dylan, Dylan’ material that people clamored for for decades. That’s not a knock on anything, it’s just that this era, as interesting it may be for long time deep fans, is of little or no interest to the most current or most recent past generation of Dylan followers. I am sure metrics were used and based on past sales as a reference, and they failed miserably. To overstate it just to make my point, nobody wants ALL of this stuff. SOME of this stuff, is good enough. Add in frustration that while Dylan is touring, while promoting his latest album your chances of ever seeing or hearing this stuff live in concert today or in the future are at Love Minus Zero. The other cherry on top that breaks the camel’s back is that the past several Bootleg Series ‘limited editions’ have not gone out of print, and the concept of immediacy - buy it now or lose out forever - is not an active incentive. Of course I could be wrong. But no one alive today has ever seen that happen or will survive long enough afterwards to testify I was in error. But just-a-sayin’. For $27 it’s a great companion. For $100 there are hundreds more houses of pleasure to chose from.
I saw the Bobster the night before halloween 1997 and he played 4-5 songs from this album and they were definitely on. We headed to Denny's after the show and guess who walks in?.....you guessed it. If you are fan of the album this is a fantastic listen.
Not a great deal (yet), but it is a few dollars less than the Deja Vu 2021 LP I picked up from B&N. If one didn't buy the Deja Vu 4CD + vinyl boxset, this is the vinyl LP that came with it, complete with the full jacket & cover art. (the box didn't include a jacket.) btw, this new record sounds awesome! Amazon.com
seems to have a lower list price? $100 (so maybe it's go down to $50?) Cat Stevens Super Deluxe Teaser and Firecat $83.28 (2LP, 7", 4CD/bluray) Amazon.com
That's about what I paid for the Tea for the Tillerman less than a month ago. That one is at $127 now. It seems unlikely Teaser will go much lower than this, but it's a roll of the dice.
