    Let Us Go Into the House of the Lord by the Edwin Hawkins Singers, possibly the first album to combine black gospel with rock instruments (guitar and bass). If for nothing else, it has the amazing 1969 hit single, "Oh Happy Day":

    They didn't record a full gospel album but the Trio's handful of songs from both their albums are absolutely gorgeous, especially this one that is an unreleased track from the Trio Deluxe Edition:
