What did you guys expect them to do when everyone DVRs the show and fast forwards through the commercials. So they will have to do that kind of thing more and more....we all caused this by getting DVRs and skipping commercials. It's not like the shows can last without the commercials giving them money...it's a necessary evil.

Dodgy CG, done on low budgets, with an extreme look applied. Looks very plasticky to me. But I kinda laugh and go with it, because it's such a wacky show. You can tell it's pieces of a real city, but the obvious CG, overlaid smoke, and weird lighting immediately ring false. But... I also get that this is being done on a TV budget and TV schedule, so it's not like they have six months to endlessly redo the shot and make it perfect. And at least when they do live action portions of the show, the stuff is really beautiful, albeit very affected and "fantastic," like something out of a comic book. (Natch.)

I have no problem actually watching commercials if they're really good. The new Mercedes GT spot is incredibly good, and I also got misty-eyed (being a sentimental slug myself) at the new Budweiser spot with the Clydesdales and the puppy.

I enjoyed tonight as well, as the roller coaster ride with Penguin continues, lol. He's resourceful, a fun character to watch as he careens from ally to ally like a pinball, while setting in motion much of what we've seen in the show.

I was dying from laughter as Penguin was calling Duffy.

Ed is stepping up his game.

Is it just me, or does she still pretty much look the same on-screen as she did in Firefly TWELVE YEARS ago?

I don't care about skipping through commercials, I just wish there was a way I could remove Jada Pinkett Smith entirely. Can't stand her.

That's very interesting. I usually can't stand her, but both myself and my wife think she's doing a really good job in the Fish Mooney role.

    Morena is very pretty.

Wouldn't bother me if they did away with young Bruce.

I continue to be impressed with Gotham. And, I say that as someone who is extremely critical of the mess WB has made of an already-chaotic-to-the-point-of-incoherence DC universe.

At least the Batman segment of that universe is being well cared-for.

This week's episode was fun, lots of Penguin, Bruce on his own in the wild...and the origin of the Scarecrow! A somewhat lighter episode, with Jim's romantic entanglement providing contrast to the darker aspects of the story-telling.
I'm not sure I like the new Fish storyline, but it's still entertaining to a degree, enough for me to ignore the silliness of her backing down to huge thugs, lol.

"Now, that's how you kill your mother." The best line in an otherwise horrible show (V).

One problem with doing a prequel to anything is that you already know in advance who's going to live, at least among the central cast members. In this case, we know Bruce Wayne, Alfred, The Penguin, the Joker, and Jim Gordon will all survive for many years after Batman emerges as an adult. The side characters could theoretically live or die, but beyond that, there's no surprises.
